# Create a work order

Adds a new work order at a unit, building or rentable item.

`POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/resman/properties/{property_id}/work-orders`

Access: write. Confirm: waits for the user's OK before it runs.

Returns the new work order id and its number. The work order shows in ResMan at once, and a resident who reported it can follow its progress. ResMan sets the due date from your account settings when you give none. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool.

## Parameters

| `property_id` | string | yes | Property id from list_properties. |
| `description` | string | yes | What is wrong, up to 248 characters. |
| `category_id` | string | yes | Category id from list_work_order_options. |
| `location_type` | string | yes | Unit, Building, Rentable Item or WOIT Account. |
| `location` | string | yes | Unit number, building name or the id of the location. |
| `reported_by` | string | no | Name of the resident who reported it. |
| `assigned_to_person_id` | string | no | Person id of a maintenance employee. |
| `priority` | string | no | Low, Medium or High. |
| `areas` | array | no | Impacted areas from list_work_order_options. |
| `notes` | string | no | Longer notes for the technician. |
