# Search records

MCP tool: `quickbase_read → search_records`

Access: read.

Types your text into the Search box on the table home page and returns the matching rows. The Search box only checks fields that the report marks as searchable, so a value in another field is not found. Pass a report to search inside it; without one, the table's default report is used. Returns rows like run_report, with Record ID# for get_record and update_record.

## Parameters

| Name | Type | Required | Description |

| `app` | string | yes | App name as it appears under My apps, e.g. 'Field Ops'. |
| `table` | string | yes | Table name as it appears in the app's sidebar, e.g. 'Work orders'. |
| `query` | string | yes | Text to search for. |
| `report` | string | no | Report to search in. Default: the table's default report. |
| `limit` | integer | no | Rows to return in this call. |
| `cursor` | string | no | Next page cursor from the previous call. |
