# Assign a service record

Assign a record to an agent, a group, or both.

MCP tool: `sysaid_write → assign_service_record`

Access: write. Confirm: waits for the user's OK before it runs.

Returns the assignee and group after the change. Pass whichever your account uses; passing neither fails. The new assignee gets the instant message SysAid sends when a record is assigned to them, and the assignment appears in the Journey highlights. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool.

## Parameters

| Name | Type | Required | Description |

| `record_id` | integer | yes | Service record ID from search_service_records. IDs are unique across incidents, requests, problems and changes. |
| `assignee` | string | no | Agent name from list_agents_and_groups. |
| `group` | string | no | Group name from list_agents_and_groups. |
