# Tag and note Aircall calls automatically

> Tag every finished Aircall call from the tags you already have and add a one-line note, daily from Claude Code, n8n or a script. Hosted.

Source: https://cotlet.dev/integrations/aircall-api-mcp-server/tag-and-note-calls

After each call an Aircall agent has to pick a tag and type a note while the next caller already waits. By the evening half the calls of the day are untagged, and the reports built on tags are empty.

Cotlet does it in your own Aircall account with list\_calls, list\_tags, get\_call, set\_call\_tags and add\_call\_note, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Aircall do this on its own?

Aircall has no rule that tags or notes a call from its content (checked 23 Oct 2026). Its REST API can add tags and comments, but an Admin must create the API key and you write the code. The official MCP server is read-only and cannot tag calls or change data.

## How you do it in Aircall today

1. During the call or on the Call End view, the agent chooses Tags & notes, opens the tag menu, picks one or more tags and types in the notes field. Aircall saves both when the call ends.
2. Later, the agent opens the call from the Calls or Conversations view, clicks it, then See more in the call log. Add Tag adds or edits tags, and the Notes field takes the note.
3. Admins and Supervisors create tags in Aircall Dashboard > Call Settings > Tags with Add a tag, a label and a color. Users can only apply the tags that exist.
4. On a number with Mandatory call tagging (Dashboard > Numbers > Settings tab), an untagged call keeps the agent unavailable until a tag is set, so tags are often picked in a hurry.

## How to tag and note Aircall calls automatically

Prompt

```
Go through yesterday's answered calls on the Support line. Tag each one with the best matching tag we already have, and add a one-line note of what was agreed. Leave calls shorter than 30 seconds alone.
```

1. 01
### Read the day's calls
Your agent reads yesterday's calls on the line with list\_calls, newest first, and follows next\_cursor to the end of the day. It skips calls that are missed, shorter than your limit, or already tagged, so a second run changes nothing.
2. 02
### Learn which tags exist
list\_tags returns every tag label. The agent can only use these: Aircall lets just Admins and Supervisors create tags, so a label that is not on the list fails with its name in the error, and the agent picks the closest existing one instead.
3. 03
### Read what was said
get\_call returns the notes and the voicemail transcript when there is one. If your seat has the AI Assist add-on, get\_call\_summary adds the summary and action items, and the agent bases the tag and the note on them. Without them it tags from the line, caller and duration only and says so.
4. 04
### Set the tags
set\_call\_tags replaces the tags of the call with the list you pass, so the agent includes the tags already there. It reaches no customer and one more call undoes it, so it does not wait for your OK.
5. 05
### Write the note
add\_call\_note adds one line after any note already on the call. Teammates on the line read it and a CRM connected to the line receives it after the call ends, so each note waits for your OK until you switch confirmation off.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Support line, 22 Oct: 31 calls, 24 answered
Tagged 19, noted 19
- Luis Ortega, 7 min: Follow Up, Pricing. "Duplicate seat on October invoice. Corrected invoice promised by Friday."
Left for you 5 (no matching tag, or under 30 seconds)
```

### Other ways to ask

- Every evening, tag the day's voicemails Callback Request and list them for me.
- Tag all calls from this week that mention a refund, and write nothing in the notes.
- Show which calls of the last 3 days have no tag, and do not change anything.
- Add the order number the caller gave to the note of each call on the Sales line.

## What Aircall allows, and what to know first

- Aircall has six default tags (Conference, Callback Request, Called Back, Follow Up, Voicemail Drop, Voice Virtual Agent). They cannot be edited or removed.
- Aircall tag labels hold up to 255 characters, and the Dashboard cannot bulk update or import tags.
- Mandatory Call Tagging needs the Professional or Custom plan, and only an Admin turns it on per number. Only one tag can be added right after the call; more tags are added by reopening the call.
- Notes are visible to all teammates assigned to the same phone line.
- Once a note has synced to a connected CRM, Aircall cannot edit it, so the agent writes notes it can stand behind.

add\_call\_note asks for your OK by default. To run it daily without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

## Call set\_call\_tags from a script

curl

```
curl -X PUT https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/aircall/calls/1437758774/tags \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"tags":["Follow Up","Pricing"]}'
```

Example response

```
{
"call_id": "1437758774",
"tags": [
"Follow Up",
"Pricing"
],
"updated_at": "2026-10-23T08:15:02Z"
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is aircall\_write → set\_call\_tags. Example data.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can the agent create a new tag?

No. Aircall lets only Admins and Supervisors create tags, in Dashboard > Call Settings > Tags. Ask for the missing tag there, and the agent uses it from the next run.

### Is it safe to connect Aircall to Cotlet?

Yes. You sign in to Aircall yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get Aircall once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.
