# Run a Bandcamp sale with a discount code and tell your followers

> An agent creates the Bandcamp discount code with the right scope and end date, then posts the sale to your Community page followers.

An anniversary, a tour or a slow month calls for a sale. On Bandcamp that is a code on the Tools page and a separate message to followers, and the two have to say the same thing.

Cotlet does it in your own Bandcamp account with list\_releases, create\_discount\_code and send\_community\_message, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Bandcamp do this on its own?

Bandcamp has no API for discount codes or Community messages (checked 12 Oct 2026). Both are done by hand: codes on the Tools page, messages on the Community page or in the Bandcamp Artist App.

By hand

## How you do it in Bandcamp today

1. Open the Tools page and go to the Discount Code section, then name the code (fans type this name in the Buy Now dialog).
2. Pick the percentage, what the code covers (Anything, Anything except pre-orders, Anything excluding physical, Anything excluding digital, or a single track, album or package) and, if the sale ends, an expiration date.
3. Click generate, then open your Community page (or the Bandcamp Artist App) and write a message to followers with the code, what it covers and when it ends.
4. Check that the message matches the code. A code limited to the digital album while the post says "the vinyl too", or a post that names the wrong end date, turns into a week of replies from fans.

With an agent

## How to run a Bandcamp sale with a discount code and tell your followers

Prompt

```
Make a 20% code NIGHTDRIVE20 for the Night Drive album, digital and vinyl, valid until 31 October, and draft a Community message about it for me to approve.
```

1. 01
### Find the right release
list\_releases finds the album or package by title. If the sale covers an album and its vinyl, the agent points out that one code can cover a single item or a whole category, not two chosen items, and asks which scope you want.
2. 02
### Check the code can apply
A release priced at zero cannot take a code and 100% off is not offered, so the agent stops and suggests track/album codes for a giveaway instead.
3. 03
### Name it for tracking
Bandcamp counts redemptions per code, so the agent proposes one code per channel (NIGHTDRIVE20 for the Community post, a second one for your newsletter) when you mention more than one place.
4. 04
### Create, then write from what was created
create\_discount\_code runs after your OK. The Community draft is written from the code that came back, so the scope, percentage and end date in the post are the ones Bandcamp stored.
5. 05
### Post only when you approve the text
send\_community\_message reaches every follower by email and in the app, so the agent shows the final text and waits. It never posts a second message about the same sale without asking.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Night Drive album and Night Drive LP are separate items, so the code covers "anything" as you chose.
Code NIGHTDRIVE20 created: 20% off, ends 31 Oct 2026.
Community draft approved and posted at 10:00.
Reminder: the discount applies to the base price only; vinyl shipping stays full price.
Second code NIGHTDRIVE-NL created for the newsletter, same terms, so you can compare redemptions.
```

### Other ways to ask

- Make a 15% code for everything except pre-orders, valid this weekend only, and post it to followers on Friday at 9:00.
- Create a code for the tour shirt only and do not post anything; I will share it from the stage.
- Which discount codes are still active and when do they end?

Before you automate it

## What Bandcamp allows, and what to know first

- Bandcamp shows the code field in the Buy Now dialog only while at least one discount code is active on the Tools page.
- A Bandcamp discount applies to the base price only; shipping and taxes on physical items are calculated on the full price.
- Bandcamp does not offer 100% off codes and points sellers to one-use track/album codes for free downloads instead.
- Bandcamp Community messages reach fans who follow you, by email, in the Bandcamp app and on your Community page, and only fans who bought a release can comment.
- Unticking "Show Community link" in the Navigation Bar section of a Bandcamp profile hides the Community link on desktop only; messages and comments still work in the Bandcamp Artist App.

create\_discount\_code and send\_community\_message ask for your OK by default. To run it on a schedule without you, switch confirmation off for those tools in your dashboard.

## Frequently asked questions

### Do subscribers and followers see the same message?

Not always. Once you run a Bandcamp subscription, you pick each message's audience at the top of the compose box, and subscriber-only messages show as locked to followers. send\_community\_message posts a message for followers.
