# Tag Brand24 mentions as complaints, leads and questions

> Tag new Brand24 mentions as complaints, sales leads or questions by your own rules, then filter the Mentions tab or a PDF report by tag.

Your Brand24 project collects a few hundred mentions a week, and the ones your support or sales team should see sit between praise and noise until someone tags them by hand.

Cotlet does it in your own Brand24 account with list\_tags, list\_mentions and tag\_mentions, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Brand24 do this on its own?

Brand24 tags mentions only by hand (checked 23 Oct 2026). Its API reference has a read-only endpoint that lists tags and accepts a tag as a filter, and none that assigns one. The MCP server documents no tag action.

## How you do it in Brand24 today

1. Open the Mentions tab of the project and read each mention: its title, the number of followers or monthly visits, and its sentiment.
2. Click Tags at the bottom of a mention, then pick an existing tag or add a new one.
3. For many mentions, tick their boxes or click Select all, and choose the tag action in the bulk actions bar.
4. Click a tag on the right side of the Mentions tab, under Filters, to list only the mentions that carry it.
5. In the PDF Creator, narrow the report to a tag, and use the Tag section of the report builder to include the tagged mentions.

## How to tag Brand24 mentions as complaints, leads and questions

Prompt

```
Read new mentions in the Northwind Coffee project. Tag the ones that report a problem with Complaint, the ones asking where to buy with Sales lead, and leave the rest untagged.
```

1. 01
### Learn your tag set
list\_tags returns the tags the project can use. The agent applies only those, and creates a new tag only when your prompt names it.
2. 02
### Read what is new
list\_mentions runs over the window since the last run. Each row lists its tags, so the agent skips mentions that already carry one.
3. 03
### Classify by your rule
Each mention is matched to one tag by the rule in your prompt, for example "reports a problem" or "asks where to buy". The agent quotes the phrase it relied on. A mention that fits no rule stays untagged and goes on your list.
4. 04
### Apply one tag per call
tag\_mentions runs once per tag with all matching IDs, so a long queue is a few calls, not one per mention. Each call waits for your OK by default.
5. 05
### Hand off the queue
The agent reports counts per tag and the top mentions of each, so support or sales can open the Mentions tab filtered by that tag.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Northwind Coffee, since yesterday: 74 new mentions
Complaint: 6 (e.g. "Grinder arrived with a cracked hopper", 3,100 followers)
Sales lead: 4 (e.g. "Where can I buy Northwind beans in Austin?")
Left untagged: 64
No rule matched: 2 mentions about a competitor
```

### Other ways to ask

- Tag mentions from accounts with over 10000 followers as Influencer and tell me their titles.
- Every Friday, tag the week's mentions that ask a question as Question and give me the list.
- Tag only mentions that are already negative as Complaint and leave positive ones alone.

## What Brand24 allows, and what to know first

- Brand24 lets you tag a mention with an existing tag or a new one, using the Tags button at the bottom of the mention.
- Tags are managed on the right side of the Mentions tab under Filters, and a click on a tag filters the list to its mentions.
- Add a tag is one of four bulk actions in the Mentions tab, next to delete spam, change sentiment and add to a PDF report.
- PDF reports are in the Pro, Business and Enterprise plans, can be narrowed to a tag, and the builder has a Tag section for tagged mentions.
- Brand24's API lists the tags of the account that owns a project, and uses a tag as a filter on its stats endpoints.

tag\_mentions asks for your OK by default. To run it daily without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

## Call tag\_mentions from a script

curl

```
curl -X POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/brand24/projects/123456789/mentions/tag \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"mention_ids":["7001234520","7001234521","7001234522"],"tag":"Complaint"}'
```

Example response

```
{
"tagged": 3,
"tag": "Complaint",
"tag_created": false
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is brand24\_write → tag\_mentions. Example data.
