# Summarize unread Feedly articles with AI

> Turn the unread articles in a Feedly feed into one grouped digest with links, then mark what it covered as read. Runs daily from your agent.

Source: https://cotlet.dev/integrations/feedly-api-mcp-server/daily-unread-digest

Your AI news feed in Feedly shows 40 unread articles by Tuesday, and you skim headlines for twenty minutes to find the five that matter before the count grows again.

Cotlet does it in your own Feedly account with list\_feeds, list\_articles, get\_article and mark\_articles\_read, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Feedly do this on its own?

Feedly has no digest of your own unread articles that an agent can read and clear (checked 17 Oct 2026). The Zapier app has a New Article in Feed trigger that sends each new article out one by one, and it has no action to summarize or mark as read. The Enterprise API add-on has a Collect articles endpoint for a stream, and its endpoint reference lists none for read state.

## How you do it in Feedly today

1. Open the Feed in the left navigation and scan the list of unread articles, one source after another.
2. Open an article to read it; the Feed keeps its unread count until you mark articles as read.
3. Press M to toggle one article between read and unread, or X to mark it read and hide it from the list.
4. Press Shift + A to mark every article in the current list as read once you have skimmed it.
5. The skimming repeats for every Feed, and the unread count comes back with the next batch of posts.

## How to summarize unread Feedly articles with AI

Prompt

```
Read my unread articles in the AI news feed from the last 24 hours. Group them by topic, give me a three-line summary per group with links, then mark everything you covered as read.
```

1. 01
### Pick the feed and the window
Your agent resolves the Feed name from your prompt against the Feeds in list\_feeds and stops if two Feeds match, so "AI news" never silently becomes the wrong Feed.
2. 02
### Collect only what is unread
list\_articles runs on that Feed with the unread filter and a since time of 24 hours, and follows the cursor until the window is empty, so a long Monday backlog is one digest and not the first page.
3. 03
### Read before grouping
get\_article fetches the full text only for articles whose preview does not settle the topic. Duplicates of one story from several sources are merged into a single line with every link.
4. 04
### Write the digest
The agent groups stories by topic, writes three lines per group and keeps the source name next to each link, so you can open the original with one click.
5. 05
### Clear what it covered
mark\_articles\_read runs for the article IDs it actually summarized. Articles it skipped for length or language stay unread, so the count you see afterwards is the real remainder.

### What you get back

Example data

```
AI news, last 24 hours: 31 unread articles in 3 groups
1. New model releases (12): two open-weight releases, one price cut. Links: 5
2. Agents and tooling (11): MCP server launches, a coding-agent benchmark. Links: 4
3. Policy (8): one EU guidance update, summarized
Marked as read: 31
Still unread in this Feed: 0
```

### Other ways to ask

- Every weekday at 7:30, send me the digest of my Marketing feed and leave the articles unread.
- Summarize only articles from sources I follow in the Design feed that mention accessibility, and hide them after reading.
- List the five most-covered stories across all my Feeds this week, with one source link each.
- Mark as read everything in the Press feed older than three days without summarizing it.

## What Feedly allows, and what to know first

- Feedly offers two read actions: Mark as read lowers the unread count and keeps the article in view, and Mark as read and hide also removes it from the list until you reload.
- In a Team Feed, Feedly tracks read status per person, so marking articles as read does not clear them for teammates.
- Feedly has Personal Feeds and Team Feeds, and Team Feeds are only available to Enterprise users.
- The shortcut Shift + A marks every article in the current list as read, so the tool keeps your agent to the articles it summarized instead.
- A Feed groups sources, and an article shows under the source that published it, which is why the same story from two sources appears twice.

mark\_articles\_read changes only your own Feedly data and reach no one else, so it runs without asking first.

## Call mark\_articles\_read from a script

curl

```
curl -X POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/feedly/articles-read/mark \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"article_ids":["art_9d41e0","art_9d41e1","art_9d41e2"],"state":"read"}'
```

Example response

```
{
"updated": 3,
"state": "read",
"hide": false,
"article_ids": [
"art_9d41e0",
"art_9d41e1",
"art_9d41e2"
]
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is feedly\_write → mark\_articles\_read. Example data.

## Frequently asked questions

### Will the digest clear articles I did not read?

Only the ones in the digest. The agent passes the IDs it summarized to mark\_articles\_read, and everything else keeps its unread state. Set hide to true if you want them gone from the list until the next reload.

### Is it safe to connect Feedly to Cotlet?

Yes. You sign in to Feedly yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get Feedly once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.

## For AI agents: sign your user up

Is your user asking you to sign them up for Cotlet? You can do it for them, no account or key needed.

1. Read the fields and their allowed values: GET https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests
2. Ask the user for each value: email, apps, what you will do with them. If they leave the password to you, generate a strong one and show it to them.
3. Show the user what you will send, then POST it as JSON to https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests.

One call creates the account and sends the access request; we email the user when access is granted.
