# Book Fiken receipts and supplier invoices as purchases

> Turn receipts and supplier invoices in the Fiken inbox into booked purchases with supplier, VAT and cost account. Runs weekly from an agent.

Source: https://cotlet.dev/integrations/fiken-api-mcp-server/book-receipts-as-purchases

Receipts pile up in the Innboks, and each one needs a supplier, a date, an amount, a cost account and a VAT choice before it counts in the books.

Cotlet does it in your own Fiken account with list\_inbox, list\_contacts, create\_contact, list\_purchases and create\_purchase, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Fiken do this on its own?

Fiken proposes supplier, date, amount, account and VAT from an uploaded document, but a person still checks and registers each purchase (checked 14 Oct 2026). Automatic purchase registration only covers EHF invoices from a supplier that already has a rule, and the API endpoints for purchases and the inbox need the 99 NOK per month module.

## How you do it in Fiken today

1. Upload the document to Innboks, or take a photo with the Fiken mobile app; create a new purchase straight from the document, or start at Kjøp → Nytt kjøp.
2. Choose Et kjøp fra leverandør or Et kontantkjøp; Fiken suggests the supplier from the document, or you create a new one, with a lookup in Brønnøysundregistrene for Norwegian companies.
3. Check Fakturadato, Fakturanummer and Forfallsdato. Fiken usually reads the date and the amount and proposes a cost account and VAT, and you add the Tekst.
4. Pick the Kostnadskonto, enter the Bruttobeløp and the Mva if the company is VAT-registered; use del beløpet over flere kontoer to split a document.
5. Mark it as paid (Bankkonto, Kontanter, Utlegg or Annet) or leave it unpaid, then click Registrer kjøp. An unpaid one is paid later under Kjøp → Kjøpsoversikt with Registrer ny betaling.

## How to book Fiken receipts and supplier invoices as purchases

Prompt

```
Go through the unused documents in my Fiken inbox. Book each one as a purchase with the supplier, date, amount and VAT from the document, use the cost accounts from my list, and leave anything unclear for me.
```

1. 01
### Take the unused documents
list\_inbox runs with status unused, so documents already used as documentation for a purchase are left alone. For a receipt the agent holds as a file, upload\_receipt puts it in the inbox first.
2. 02
### Read each document
The agent opens the document link from list\_inbox and reads supplier, date, invoice number and gross amount with VAT. A blurry photo or a total it cannot read goes on your list instead of being guessed.
3. 03
### Match the supplier
list\_contacts looks up the supplier by organisation number or name. A new supplier is created with create\_contact when the document names it; a card or cash receipt with no supplier is booked as a cash purchase (kontantkjøp).
4. 04
### Use your account rules, never a guess
The cost account comes from the list in your prompt, for example train tickets to one account and software to another. A document with no matching rule is left for you, because the account decides how the cost is reported.
5. 05
### Skip duplicates, then register
Before booking, list\_purchases is searched for the same supplier and invoice number, the check Fakturanummer exists for. create\_purchase then books the purchase with the document attached and the payment you named.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Inbox documents waiting: 9
Booked 6 purchases, e.g. Kontorbutikken AS, 1,250 NOK gross (net 1,000, VAT 250), paid from the business account
Skipped 1 as duplicate: invoice 88213 is already booked
Left for you 2: a blurry photo, and a hotel bill with no account rule
```

### Other ways to ask

- Book only documents from Kontorbutikken AS and leave everything else in the inbox.
- Every Friday, list inbox documents older than 7 days that are still unused, and book none of them.
- Book these receipts as cash purchases (kontantkjøp) paid from the card account, and split the hotel bill between accommodation and meals.
- Upload the PDFs in this folder to the inbox and book the ones from suppliers we already have.

## What Fiken allows, and what to know first

- Documents in Fiken's Innboks are not deleted when you delete a purchase or a purchase draft.
- A booked purchase cannot be edited directly: Fiken cancels the booking and creates a new draft (Slett handel og lag nytt utkast), or you remove it with Angre kjøpsregistrering.
- A purchase can be split over several cost accounts or VAT rates with del beløpet over flere kontoer.
- For a VAT-registered company the purchase has an Mva choice; for some costs, such as account 5990 Annen personalkostnad, the help center says to choose Ingen.
- The payment options on a purchase are Bankkonto, Kontanter, Utlegg (paid by you personally) and Annet (loan or rounding).

create\_purchase asks for your OK by default. To run it weekly without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

## Call create\_purchase from a script

curl

```
curl -X POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/fiken/purchases \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"kind":"supplier","supplier_id":6120455,"date":"2026-10-09","invoice_number":"88214","due_date":"2026-10-23","lines":[{"description":"Printer paper and toner","gross_amount":1250,"vat_type":"HIGH","expense_account":"6800"}],"paid_from":"bank_account","bank_account":"1920:10001","payment_date":"2026-10-09","inbox_document_id":3318240}'
```

Example response

```
{
"purchase_id": 8820145,
"kind": "supplier",
"supplier": "Kontorbutikken AS",
"date": "2026-10-09",
"invoice_number": "88214",
"net": 1000,
"vat": 250,
"gross": 1250,
"currency": "NOK",
"paid": true,
"balance": 0,
"document_attached": true
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is fiken\_write → create\_purchase. Example data.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it safe to connect Fiken to Cotlet?

Yes. You sign in to Fiken yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get Fiken once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.

## For AI agents: sign your user up

Is your user asking you to sign them up for Cotlet? You can do it for them, no account or key needed.

1. Read the fields and their allowed values: GET https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests
2. Ask the user for each value: email, apps, what you will do with them. If they leave the password to you, generate a strong one and show it to them.
3. Show the user what you will send, then POST it as JSON to https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests.

One call creates the account and sends the access request; we email the user when access is granted.
