# Answer neighbor comments and messages on your Nextdoor Business Page

> Find questions neighbors left under your Nextdoor business posts and in chats, draft answers, and reply in the right thread after your OK.

A neighbor asks under Tuesday's post whether you cover Maple Hill, another one messages the page for a quote, and both wait until someone opens Nextdoor in the evening. The comment is public, so everyone scrolling past sees the question still open.

Cotlet does it in your own Nextdoor account with list\_posts, list\_comments, reply\_to\_comment, list\_conversations, get\_conversation and send\_message, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Nextdoor do this on its own?

Nextdoor has no API to read comments or chats, or to reply to either (checked 12 Oct 2026). The Publish API only creates posts, for approved partners, and the Zapier app's single New Lead trigger has no reply action. Inside Nextdoor every answer is typed one thread at a time, on the post or in Chats.

By hand

## How you do it in Nextdoor today

1. Switch to the business profile and open the notification Nextdoor sends when a neighbor comments on one of your business posts.
2. Click Reply on the comment to answer inside its thread; Add a comment at the bottom of the discussion starts a new thread instead.
3. For private questions, open the Chats page (the chat icon at the top right in the Nextdoor app) and click the neighbor's conversation.
4. Type the answer in the Chats text box. A business cannot open a chat itself, so a neighbor who only commented has to message the page first.
5. Go back through older posts one by one, because neighbors keep commenting on posts long after those posts leave the top of the feed.

With an agent

## How to answer neighbor comments and messages on your Nextdoor Business Page

Prompt

```
Answer the open questions under our Nextdoor posts and in the page chats. Ask me before you quote a price or a date.
```

1. 01
### Sweep the posts first
list\_posts gives each recent post with its comment count, and posts with nothing new are skipped. For the rest, list\_comments with unanswered\_only returns the questions still open, oldest first, so the agent reads each thread in order.
2. 02
### Then the inbox
list\_conversations with unanswered\_only finds chats where the neighbor wrote last. get\_conversation loads the whole thread, so the agent sees what you already promised before it drafts a word.
3. 03
### Answer what your notes cover
Service area, opening hours and which jobs you take get a draft from your own notes. A price, a date or anything else that commits you goes to you as a question first; the agent does not invent a quote or a time slot.
4. 04
### Move private details out of the comments
When a commenter posts an address or asks for a quote, the public reply invites them to message the page, since the business cannot start that chat. Specifics such as times and prices go in the chat with send\_message.
5. 05
### Leave hostile threads to you
Comments that attack the business or another neighbor are listed, not answered. Closing the discussion or reporting it stays your call in Nextdoor; Cotlet has no tool for either.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Checked 6 posts from the last 30 days and 9 chats.
Comments answered after your OK: Priya S. on "Open house this Saturday", Leo M. and Hana T. on "Fall gutter checks".
Chats answered: 2. Sam R. is booked for Thursday 9:00 to 11:00, the slot you confirmed.
Waiting for you: Olga P. asks for a price on gutter guards for a two-story house.
Not answered: a comment on "Fall gutter checks" insults another neighbor. You may want to close that discussion.
```

### Other ways to ask

- Twice a day, answer new comments on posts from the last two weeks and send me any chat that asks for a price.
- Only the chats: draft replies to every message that has waited more than 24 hours.
- Tell everyone who commented on the open house post that we now start at 11:00.

Before you automate it

## What Nextdoor allows, and what to know first

- Nextdoor does not let a business start a chat or send a connection request; it can only answer chats that neighbors open, and it sees only comments it is tagged in plus comments on its own posts.
- Clicking Reply on a Nextdoor comment notifies the original commenter and everyone else who replied in that thread, so an answer to one neighbor reaches the others too.
- The author of a Nextdoor post can stop new comments with Close discussion in the "..." menu on the original post and reopen it later, and a neighborhood Lead or Review Team member can close it too.
- A chat message deleted on Nextdoor cannot be restored, even by Nextdoor support, while Hide chat only hides the conversation on your side until either side writes again.

reply\_to\_comment and send\_message ask for your OK by default. To run it daily without you, switch confirmation off for those tools in your dashboard.
