# Collect Otter.ai action items from all your meetings

> Pull every open Otter.ai action item assigned to you into one list grouped by meeting, check off the finished ones and reassign the rest.

Source: https://cotlet.dev/integrations/otter-api-mcp-server/weekly-action-items-roundup

Otter writes action items at the end of every call, but by Friday they are scattered over a dozen conversations and you only remember the ones from today.

Cotlet does it in your own Otter.ai account with list\_action\_items, get\_conversation, complete\_action\_item and assign\_action\_item, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Otter.ai do this on its own?

Otter shows action items in its Action Items tab and has no export of that list beyond Copy all action items (checked 16 Oct 2026). The public API, Enterprise only, returns action items with assignee and completion status for one conversation at a time when you ask for include=action\_items, and workspace webhooks push them when a conversation completes. The official MCP server has no action item tool, and nothing in the API completes or reassigns an item.

## How you do it in Otter.ai today

1. Open the Action Items tab next to the Calendar tab on the Otter home page.
2. Review the items assigned to you across all conversations; click the three dots next to one and choose View in transcript to see where in the call it came from.
3. Click an item to edit its text, check the box when it is done to move it to Completed, or choose Copy all action items to paste the list into another document.
4. To hand an item to someone else, click the three dots, choose the assignee line and pick a new user; the item leaves your list at once.
5. Items assigned to other people do not show up in your list, so the full picture of a call stays inside its own conversation.

## How to collect Otter.ai action items from all your meetings

Prompt

```
Every Friday, list my open Otter action items from this week's meetings, grouped by meeting, and mark the ones I tell you are done.
```

1. 01
### Pull your open items
list\_action\_items returns the open items assigned to you, the same set as the Action Items tab, each with the conversation it came from. Your agent pages through the cursor until the list ends.
2. 02
### Group by meeting
Items are grouped by conversation and ordered by meeting date, so you read the week as a list of calls instead of one long pile. Duplicates across meetings are merged and the duplicate meetings are named.
3. 03
### Look at the call only when needed
An item whose text is unclear, such as "Send it over", gets one get\_conversation call for the summary of its meeting, so the report says what "it" is.
4. 04
### Close only what you named
complete\_action\_item runs for the items you say are done, and for nothing else. An item completed by mistake is reopened with the same call and completed set to false.
5. 05
### Flag what moved to others
If you ask to hand an item to a colleague, assign\_action\_item asks for your OK first, because the item then appears in their list and disappears from yours.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Open action items: 7 across 4 meetings
Pricing review with Acme (Oct 13): 3
- Send revised quote by Wednesday
- Confirm seat count with Dana
Onboarding kickoff (Oct 14): 2
Vendor intro (Oct 15): 1
Standup (Oct 16): 1
Completed at your request: 2
```

### Other ways to ask

- Show open action items from the Acme meetings only and tell me which have no due date in the text.
- Every Monday at 8, list the open items older than a week so I can close or reassign them.
- Mark "Send revised quote by Wednesday" as done and tell me how many items are left for the Pricing review.
- List the action items in the Pricing review conversation with their assignees, including items not assigned to me.

## What Otter.ai allows, and what to know first

- The Action Items tab shows only items assigned to you; items assigned to other users are visible only inside their conversation.
- An item you assign to yourself inside a conversation appears in your Action Items list automatically.
- Checking an item off moves it to the Completed section, and editing its text updates the conversation it came from.
- Reassigning an item removes it from your list, and it comes back only if the new assignee hands it back or you assign it again in the conversation.
- Deleting an action item in Otter is permanent and cannot be undone, which is why no delete tool is offered.

assign\_action\_item asks for your OK by default. To run it weekly without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

## Call complete\_action\_item from a script

curl

```
curl -X POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/otter/action-items/ai_204/complete \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"completed":true}'
```

Example response

```
{
"action_item_id": "ai_204",
"text": "Send revised quote by Wednesday",
"completed": true
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is otter\_write → complete\_action\_item. Example data.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it safe to connect Otter.ai to Cotlet?

Yes. You sign in to Otter.ai yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get Otter.ai once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.

## For AI agents: sign your user up

Is your user asking you to sign them up for Cotlet? You can do it for them, no account or key needed.

1. Read the fields and their allowed values: GET https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests
2. Ask the user for each value: email, apps, what you will do with them. If they leave the password to you, generate a strong one and show it to them.
3. Show the user what you will send, then POST it as JSON to https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests.

One call creates the account and sends the access request; we email the user when access is granted.
