# Patreon API and MCP server

> Patreon has a public API v2, but it reads campaigns, members and posts and cannot create posts, message members or edit tiers (checked 11 Oct 2026). Its only write endpoints are for livestreams and webhooks.

Membership platform where creators publish posts for paying members, organize them in tiers and message them through Chats.

## What is the Patreon API?

Cotlet's Patreon API exposes 13 endpoints for your own Patreon account: list tiers, list members, export members, list posts, get post, list chats, create post, update post, schedule post, publish post, send message, message tier and update tier. The list_tiers endpoint returns your membership tiers with name, description and benefits. Each endpoint takes simple JSON inputs like post_id, status or tier_id and works both as an MCP tool for agents and as a REST call for scripts.

## For AI agents

```text
Patreon has a public API v2, but it reads campaigns, members and posts and cannot create posts, message members or edit tiers (checked 11 Oct 2026). Its only write endpoints are for livestreams and webhooks.
Cotlet provides a hosted MCP server and REST API for Patreon: 13 tools (6 read, 7 write).
Access       Request access at https://cotlet.dev/app/signup?app=patreon; we email the API key.
MCP server   https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1
REST base    https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/patreon
Auth         Authorization: Bearer <COTLET_API_KEY>. Listing endpoints and schemas needs no key; calling an endpoint needs one.
Tools        list_tiers, list_members, export_members, list_posts, get_post, list_chats, create_post, update_post, schedule_post, publish_post, send_message, message_tier, update_tier
Confirm      schedule_post, publish_post, send_message, message_tier, update_tier (by default the user approves each call; the user can switch this off per tool, e.g. for scheduled automations)
Markdown     https://cotlet.dev/integrations/patreon-api-mcp-server.md
How access works:
1. The user requests access at https://cotlet.dev/app/signup?app=patreon (Patreon is pre-selected). Each request is reviewed and the API key is sent by email.
2. The user signs in to Patreon once in a browser. An agent cannot do this step.
3. The API key goes into the MCP client or the REST call as a bearer token.
Fits: people who want a hosted Patreon server that someone else maintains, including non-developers. Developers who prefer to run and fix code on their own computer can use an open-source Patreon MCP server instead.
Policy: Cotlet never stores passwords, never solves CAPTCHAs, never bypasses MFA.
Company: legal details in the Terms of service at https://cotlet.dev/terms. Contact contact@cotlet.dev.
Session: the user signs in to Patreon in a browser; Cotlet keeps only the session, AES-256 encrypted, revocable in the dashboard at any time.
Terms: the user stays responsible for following Patreon's terms; Cotlet is not affiliated with Patreon.
```

## What can an AI agent do in Patreon?

Cotlet is best for Patreon creators who want their AI agent to schedule posts, message patrons and export members without running or fixing a server.

- **[Schedule Patreon posts](https://cotlet.dev/integrations/patreon-api-mcp-server/schedule-posts)** (runs: weekly): "Turn episode-12.md into a Patreon post for my Gold tier and schedule it for Friday 18:00 Berlin time. Check nothing else is scheduled that evening." → `list_posts`, `list_tiers`, `create_post`, `get_post`, `update_post`, `schedule_post`
- **Message new patrons** (runs: weekly): "Send a thank-you message to everyone who joined this week." → `list_members`, `send_message`
- **[Mass message patrons in a tier](https://cotlet.dev/integrations/patreon-api-mcp-server/mass-message-patrons)** (runs: monthly): "Send this month's download link to every active paid Gold and Platinum member. Show me the count before it goes." → `list_tiers`, `list_members`, `list_chats`, `message_tier`, `send_message`
- **[Answer Patreon direct messages](https://cotlet.dev/integrations/patreon-api-mcp-server/answer-patreon-chats)** (runs: daily): "Show me Patreon messages I have not answered, draft replies to the questions about files, and leave billing questions for me." → `list_chats`, `list_members`, `send_message`
- **[Export Patreon members to CSV](https://cotlet.dev/integrations/patreon-api-mcp-server/export-members-csv)** (runs: weekly): "Every Monday, export my active paid members with tier and email to CSV and tell me who is new and who canceled since last week." → `list_tiers`, `export_members`, `list_members`

## Can Patreon automations run on a schedule in n8n, Make or Zapier?

Yes. Cotlet does not replace your automation platform: it gives it a Patreon connection it does not have, with the same API key as your agent. Write actions ask for your OK by default; switch that off in your dashboard for the tools you choose, for example to schedule patreon posts, and the schedule runs on its own. Cotlet runs in the cloud, so it keeps going while your computer is off.

| Where | How to connect | How to schedule |
|---|---|---|
| Your AI agent | Add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with your API key. | A scheduled agent run, for example a Claude Code routine. |
| n8n | MCP Client node with https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1, or an HTTP Request node to https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/patreon/{tool}. | Schedule Trigger node. |
| Make | HTTP module: POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/patreon/{tool} with an Authorization: Bearer header and a JSON body. | Scenario schedule. |
| Zapier | Webhooks by Zapier: POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/patreon/{tool} with the same header and body. | Schedule by Zapier trigger. |
| Your own script | POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/patreon/{tool} with your API key. | cron or GitHub Actions. |

## Tools

**For AI agents:** Every endpoint and its schema is public. The 13 endpoints on this page, with parameters and example responses, can be listed without an account. Calling one returns 403 until the account has an API key with access to Patreon.

### list_tiers

Your membership tiers with name, description and benefits. Access: read. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/list_tiers`.

No parameters.

Returns every tier on your Patreon page. Use the tier_id of each item in the other endpoints. Benefits are the ones shown in the tier editor.

Example response:

```json
{
  "tiers": [
    {
      "tier_id": "24019876",
      "name": "Gold",
      "description": "Everything in Supporter plus early episodes.",
      "benefits": [
        "Episodes a week before release",
        "Monthly Q&A"
      ]
    }
  ]
}
```

### list_members

Members from your Relationship manager with tier, status and join date. Access: read. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/list_members`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `paid` | enum | no | paid, free or all. Default: all. |
| `status` | enum | no | active, canceled or all. Default: active. |
| `tier_id` | string | no | Only members of this tier. |
| `joined_since` | date | no | Only members who joined on or after this date. |
| `limit` | integer | no | 1 to 100. Default: 50. |
| `cursor` | string | no | Next page cursor from the previous call. |

Lists members the way the Relationship manager does. Filter by paid or free, active or canceled, tier or join date. Pass next_cursor back as cursor for the next page.

Example response:

```json
{
  "members": [
    {
      "member_id": "m_4471920",
      "name": "Maya Fischer",
      "tier": "Gold",
      "status": "active",
      "paid": true,
      "joined_at": "2026-10-08T10:12:00Z"
    }
  ],
  "next_cursor": "eyJvZmZzZXQiOjUwfQ"
}
```

### export_members

The Relationship manager CSV with your filters applied, as a download link. Access: read. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/export_members`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `paid` | enum | no | paid, free or all. Default: all. |
| `status` | enum | no | active, canceled or all. Default: active. |
| `tier_id` | string | no | Only members of this tier. |

Runs the same CSV export as the button in the Relationship manager, with the filters you pass. The file has the columns you chose in the table settings, plus Charge frequency if you offer annual memberships. It reaches no one and changes nothing.

Example response:

```json
{
  "file_url": "https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/files/exports/patreon-members-2026-10-11.csv",
  "rows": 214,
  "filters": {
    "status": "active",
    "tier_id": "24019876"
  }
}
```

### list_posts

Your posts, scheduled ones first, with status, audience and publish date. Access: read. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/list_posts`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `status` | enum | no | published, draft, scheduled or all. Default: all. |
| `limit` | integer | no | 1 to 50. Default: 20. |
| `cursor` | string | no | Next page cursor from the previous call. |

Lists your posts. Scheduled posts come first, labeled with their date, as in the Patreon post list. Body is a short preview; get_post returns the full text.

Example response:

```json
{
  "posts": [
    {
      "post_id": "118204553",
      "title": "Episode 12: the full cut",
      "status": "scheduled",
      "publish_at": "2026-10-16T18:00:00+01:00",
      "audience": "paid_tiers",
      "preview": "This week we go behind the scenes..."
    }
  ],
  "next_cursor": null
}
```

### get_post

Full post: title, body, tiers with access, status and URL. Access: read. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/get_post`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `post_id` | string | yes | Post ID from list_posts. |

Returns one post with its full body and the tiers that can see it. Use it before update_post to see what is there now.

Example response:

```json
{
  "post_id": "118204553",
  "title": "Episode 12: the full cut",
  "body": "This week we go behind the scenes...",
  "status": "scheduled",
  "publish_at": "2026-10-16T18:00:00+01:00",
  "tier_ids": [
    "24019876"
  ],
  "url": "https://www.patreon.com/posts/episode-12-118204553"
}
```

### list_chats

Conversations in your Patreon Chats with the member and the last message. Access: read. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/list_chats`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `unanswered_only` | boolean | no | Skip conversations where you sent the last message. |
| `limit` | integer | no | 1 to 50. Default: 20. |
| `cursor` | string | no | Next page cursor from the previous call. |

Lists your Chats, most recent first, with the member, the last message and whether you sent it. Set unanswered_only to see what needs a reply.

Example response:

```json
{
  "chats": [
    {
      "member_id": "m_4471920",
      "name": "Maya Fischer",
      "last_message": "Where do I find the Q3 files?",
      "last_from": "member",
      "updated_at": "2026-10-10T16:02:00Z"
    }
  ],
  "next_cursor": null
}
```

### create_post

Save a new post as a draft. Nothing is published. Access: write. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/create_post`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `title` | string | yes | Post title. |
| `body` | string | yes | Post text. Links and images by URL. |
| `audience` | enum | no | public, all_members or paid_tiers. Default: all_members. |
| `tier_ids` | string[] | no | Tiers with access when audience is paid_tiers. |

Creates a draft in your Patreon post list. Nobody sees it until publish_post or schedule_post. create_post runs without asking first: it reaches no one and a draft is removed with one call in Patreon.

Example response:

```json
{
  "post_id": "118204553",
  "status": "draft",
  "audience": "paid_tiers",
  "tier_ids": [
    "24019876"
  ],
  "title": "Episode 12: the full cut"
}
```

### update_post

Change the title, body or audience of a draft or scheduled post. Access: write. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/update_post`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `post_id` | string | yes | Post ID from list_posts. |
| `fields` | object | yes | Any of title, body, audience, tier_ids. |

Edits a post that is not published yet, as you would in the post editor. It reaches no one until the post goes out, so it runs without asking first. Published posts are not changed.

Example response:

```json
{
  "post_id": "118204553",
  "status": "draft",
  "title": "Episode 12: the director's cut"
}
```

### schedule_post

Set the date and time a draft is published. Access: write, asks the user first. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/schedule_post`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `post_id` | string | yes | Post ID from list_posts. |
| `publish_at` | datetime | yes | ISO 8601 with time zone. |
| `notify_members` | boolean | no | Notify members when the post goes out. Default: true. |

Schedules a draft, which then shows at the top of your post list labeled Scheduled. Set notify_members to false to switch off the member notification for this post. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool.

Example response:

```json
{
  "post_id": "118204553",
  "status": "scheduled",
  "publish_at": "2026-10-16T18:00:00+01:00",
  "audience": "paid_tiers",
  "tier_ids": [
    "24019876"
  ],
  "url": "https://www.patreon.com/posts/episode-12-118204553"
}
```

### publish_post

Publish a draft now. Access: write, asks the user first. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/publish_post`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `post_id` | string | yes | Post ID from list_posts. |
| `notify_members` | boolean | no | Notify members when the post goes out. Default: true. |

Publishes a draft immediately to its audience. Members are notified unless notify_members is false. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool.

Example response:

```json
{
  "post_id": "118204553",
  "status": "published",
  "url": "https://www.patreon.com/posts/episode-12-118204553"
}
```

### send_message

Direct message to one current or former paid member, as you. Access: write, asks the user first. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/send_message`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `member_id` | string | yes | Member ID from list_members or list_chats. |
| `body` | string | yes | Message text. |

Sends a direct message to one member in Chats. Patreon allows direct messages only to current or former paid members, so a free member returns an error. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool.

Example response:

```json
{
  "member_id": "m_4471920",
  "status": "sent",
  "sent_at": "2026-10-11T09:05:00+02:00"
}
```

### message_tier

The same direct message to the members of one or more tiers. Access: write, asks the user first. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/message_tier`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `tier_ids` | string[] | yes | Tier IDs from list_tiers. |
| `body` | string | yes | Message text. |

Sends one message to the members of the tiers you name, as the Relationship manager does when you filter by tier. Only paid members can be messaged. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool.

Example response:

```json
{
  "tier_ids": [
    "24019876"
  ],
  "status": "sent",
  "recipients": 214
}
```

### update_tier

Change a tier's name, description or benefits. Access: write, asks the user first. REST: `POST /api/v1/patreon/update_tier`.

| Parameter | Type | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| `tier_id` | string | yes | Tier ID from list_tiers. |
| `fields` | object | yes | Any of name, description, benefits (string[]). |

Edits the fields at the top of the tier editor: name, description and benefits. Members see the change on your page. Prices are not changed by this tool. By default you confirm each call; you can switch that off for this tool.

Example response:

```json
{
  "tier_id": "24019876",
  "name": "Gold",
  "benefits": [
    "Episodes a week before release",
    "Monthly Q&A",
    "Monthly Q&A call"
  ],
  "status": "updated"
}
```

## How do I connect Patreon to Claude Code, Codex or Cursor?

Connecting Patreon takes three steps: request access, sign in to Patreon once, then add one MCP server or call the REST API with the same key.

### Connect Patreon to your agent.

1. **Create an account** Sign up and add Patreon in the console. Your API key is there too.

2. **Sign in to Patreon once** Open the connect page from the console and sign in to Patreon the way you always do. We keep the session, never your password, and you can revoke it anytime.

3. **Add Cotlet to your agent** Paste the snippet for your client. The same server and key serve every app you connect, so you do this once.

   Claude Code:

```
claude mcp add --transport http cotlet \
  https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY"
```

   Cursor:

```
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "cotlet": {
      "url": "https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${COTLET_API_KEY}"
      }
    }
  }
}
```

   Codex:

```
# ~/.codex/config.toml
[mcp_servers.cotlet]
url = "https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1"
bearer_token_env_var = "COTLET_API_KEY"
```

4. **Ask your agent** Ask in plain words. Your agent finds the Patreon tools on the server and calls them for you; anything that reaches other people waits for your OK unless you switch that off for a tool.

```
Turn episode-12.md into a Patreon post for my Gold tier and schedule it for Friday 18:00 Berlin time. Check nothing else is scheduled that evening.
```

### Call Patreon from your scripts.

1. **Export your API key** Your scripts use the same API key as your agent. Keep it in an environment variable, never in your code.

```
export COTLET_API_KEY="cotlet_..."
```

2. **Call a tool** Every tool is a POST endpoint at /api/v1/patreon/{tool}. Send its parameters as JSON, exactly as listed in the endpoints above.

```
curl https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/patreon/schedule_post \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"post_id":"118204553","publish_at":"2026-10-16T18:00:00+01:00","notify_members":true}'
```

3. **Read the result** You get plain JSON back, ready for your script. A failed call costs nothing.

```
{
  "post_id": "118204553",
  "status": "scheduled",
  "publish_at": "2026-10-16T18:00:00+01:00",
  "audience": "paid_tiers",
  "tier_ids": [
    "24019876"
  ],
  "url": "https://www.patreon.com/posts/episode-12-118204553"
}
```

## Why use Cotlet for Patreon?

**Built for agents**

- One MCP server for every app you connect.
- The same tools as a REST API for scripts and cron jobs.
- Works with Claude Code, Codex and Cursor.

**Your login stays yours**

- You sign in to Patreon yourself. We keep only the session, encrypted with AES-256.
- The model never sees a login.
- No stored passwords, no CAPTCHA solving, no MFA bypass.

**You stay in control**

- Pick read only, or read and write.
- Anything that reaches other people waits for your OK, unless you switch it off per tool.
- Revoke access in one click.

**Kept working for you**

- We test every integration daily.
- When Patreon changes, the tool pauses until we fix it.
- Failed calls cost nothing.

## Is there a Patreon MCP server on GitHub?

Yes. Open-source Patreon MCP servers exist on GitHub, usually maintained by one person. The one we know wraps the official API and is read-only. You install it and fix it yourself; Cotlet hosts and maintains a server that also posts and messages for you.

|  | GitHub MCP server | Cotlet |
|---|---|---|
| Setup | Create an API client in the Patreon developer portal, copy a token, install and add it to each MCP client | Request access, sign in to Patreon once, add one MCP server or API key |
| What it can do | Whatever API v2 allows: read members, tiers and posts | Also posts, scheduling, messages and tier edits, as in the Patreon web app |
| When Patreon changes | It breaks until you or the maintainer fix it | Our team tests it daily and fixes it for you; failed calls are free |
| Your session | A token in a file on your computer | Encrypted in an EU vault, limited to the actions you allow, revoked in one click |
| When access expires | Tools fail until you paste a new token | If Patreon logs you out, your agent gets a link to sign in again |
| Where it runs | Your computer, while it is on | Hosted: Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, n8n and scripts, also on a schedule |
| Price | Free, paid for with your time | Free 7-day trial with 5,000 credits, then credits per call |

### Which one fits you

**Pick Cotlet if**

- you are not a developer, or you do not want to maintain a server
- you need it to keep working when Patreon changes, without checking it yourself
- your agent or a script should run it on a schedule, also while your computer is off

**Pick an open-source server if**

- you are comfortable installing, updating and fixing it yourself
- you want the session to stay on your own computer
- you only need it now and then, from one MCP client

## How much does the Patreon API cost?

Free 7-day trial with 5,000 credits, no card needed. After that, the Patreon API comes with the Cotlet plan, from $29 a month for 3,000 credits, with no limit on apps. Each month's credits stay valid for 3 months, so unused credits add up.

| Size | Price | Credits / month | Per credit |
|---|---|---|---|
| Solo | $29/mo | 3,000 | about $0.0097 |
| Pro | $99/mo | 12,000 | about $0.0083 |
| Agency | $299/mo | 40,000 | $0.0075 |

Each successful call uses credits for the work it takes; failed calls and timeouts cost nothing. A hard spend cap is on by default. Authenticate with the `Authorization: Bearer` header. [See full pricing](https://cotlet.dev/pricing)

## How Cotlet holds your access

Cotlet hosts MCP servers and REST APIs for apps with no usable API. Your agent works in your own Patreon account.

- **Company details:** The legal name, address and registration numbers of the company behind Cotlet are in the Terms of service. [Terms](https://cotlet.dev/terms)
- **Your session:** You sign in to Patreon yourself, in your browser. We keep only the session, never your password: encrypted with AES-256 in an EU vault, isolated to your account and used only when your agent calls a Patreon tool you allowed. When it expires, your agent gives you a link to sign in again. [Security](https://cotlet.dev/security)
- **Revoking access:** Disconnect Patreon in your dashboard: the session is deleted and access ends at once. Actions that reach other people wait for your OK unless you switch that off per tool.
- **What we never do:** Store passwords, solve CAPTCHAs or bypass MFA.
- **Patreon's terms:** You use your own Patreon account and stay responsible for following Patreon's terms. Cotlet is independent and not affiliated with Patreon. [Terms](https://cotlet.dev/terms)
- **Contact:** Questions about the company, security or an app: [contact@cotlet.dev](mailto:contact@cotlet.dev)

## Frequently asked questions

**How do I get access?**

Request access and pick Patreon. Cotlet reviews each request and emails you your API key.

**Do I need to be technical?**

No. You sign in to Patreon once in your browser and paste one command into your agent, or one URL into n8n. Your agent can walk you through it. There is no server to install, update or fix.

**Is a hosted server safe? My Patreon session would leave my computer.**

Cotlet keeps your Patreon session encrypted with AES-256 in an EU vault, isolated to your account and used only for the tools you allow: read only, or read and write. The AI model never sees it, and you revoke it in one click. A local server keeps the same session in a file on your computer, readable by any program you run, and needs a fresh sign-in whenever it expires.

**Can it message members who pay nothing?**

No. Patreon allows direct messages only to current or former paid members. For free members, publish a public post with create_post and publish_post.

**Does Patreon API v2 stop working after October 2026?**

Public API v1 retires on 7 October 2026 and v2 stays supported, per the Patreon docs (checked 11 Oct 2026). Cotlet does not use the API, so this does not affect it.

**Can my agent post or send messages in Patreon without asking me?**

No. Every call to schedule_post, publish_post, send_message, message_tier or update_tier waits for your OK by default. For scheduled automations you can switch confirmation off per tool in your dashboard, for example only for approvals. create_post, update_post runs without asking, because it sends nothing to anyone and one call undoes it.

**Can I use the Patreon API in n8n?**

Yes. Add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with your API key in n8n's MCP Client node, or call https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/patreon/{tool} from the HTTP Request node.
