# Request documents from TaxDome clients with AI

> Send TaxDome client requests for tax documents to every client in a pipeline from Claude Code, n8n or a script. Hosted, nothing to maintain.

Source: https://cotlet.dev/integrations/taxdome-api-mcp-server/request-client-documents

Every busy season someone opens the same request form for each client, retypes the checklist, picks a due date and sends it, then checks days later who has not uploaded anything.

Cotlet does it in your own TaxDome account with list\_jobs, list\_requests and request\_documents, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can TaxDome do this on its own?

TaxDome has no public API for client requests (checked 14 Oct 2026). Its Zapier integration handles contacts only, so no Zap can send a request. TaxDome MCP is announced for Professional and Business plans and is not open to every firm yet.

## How you do it in TaxDome today

1. Send a client request from the New menu, from the client's Requests tab or from a chat; to send the same request to several clients, select them in the Clients list.
2. Build the request as a form with text, date and file upload fields, and set a due date.
3. TaxDome emails the client and sends a mobile push notification; optional reminders default to one every 3 days.
4. For files from a third party who has no portal login, create a File request from a folder's menu in Documents: the link lets them upload without logging in.
5. Open each client's Requests tab later to see who answered; the work repeats for every client.

## How to request documents from TaxDome clients with AI

Prompt

```
For each company account in the Tax Prep 2026 pipeline that has no open request, send a client request titled "2026 tax documents" asking for last year's return, bank statements and payroll reports, due Friday.
```

1. 01
### Pick who needs the request
Your agent reads the pipeline with list\_jobs and keeps the accounts whose job sits in the stages you named, so clients already past document collection are left alone.
2. 02
### Skip clients already asked
list\_requests runs for each account first. A client with an open request of the same title is skipped and listed as already asked, which prevents a second email in the same week.
3. 03
### Build one checklist
The items in your prompt become the fields of the form, with a due date. A company account gets the payroll item; an individual account does not, if your prompt says so.
4. 04
### Send with your OK
request\_documents emails the client and sets the reminder interval you gave, or TaxDome's default of every 3 days. You confirm each send, or switch that off for the weekly run.
5. 05
### Report who got what
The agent returns each account, the request ID and the due date, plus the clients it skipped and why.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Accounts in Tax Prep 2026 stage "Collect docs": 18
Requests sent: 15 ("2026 tax documents", due Fri 16 Oct)
Skipped, open request exists: 3 (Harbor Dental LLC, Nguyen Family, Pine & Co)
Reminders: every 3 days
```

### Other ways to ask

- Every Monday, re-send a short reminder message to clients whose request is still unanswered after a week.
- Request only the bank statements from individual accounts, and the payroll reports from company accounts.
- List which clients have no open request but sit in the "Collect docs" stage, and send nothing.

## What TaxDome allows, and what to know first

- A TaxDome client request is a customizable form that can hold text, date and file upload fields.
- Clients get an email and a mobile push notification; the default reminder is one every 3 days.
- A request can go to one client or, from the Clients list, to several clients at once.
- A File request creates an upload link for a folder, so a client or third party can send files without logging in to the portal.
- Only the people allowed to work with the account can send it; Cotlet uses the rights of the login you connect.

request\_documents asks for your OK by default. To run it weekly without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

## Call request\_documents from a script

curl

```
curl -X POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/taxdome/accounts/acc_4f21/documents/request \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"title":"2026 tax documents","items":["Last year'\''s return","Bank statements","Payroll reports"],"due_date":"2026-10-16","reminder_days":3}'
```

Example response

```
{
"request_id": "req_940",
"account_id": "acc_4f21",
"title": "2026 tax documents",
"items": 3,
"due_date": "2026-10-16",
"reminder_days": 3,
"status": "sent"
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is taxdome\_write → request\_documents. Example data.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it safe to connect TaxDome to Cotlet?

Yes. You sign in to TaxDome yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get TaxDome once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.

## For AI agents: sign your user up

Is your user asking you to sign them up for Cotlet? You can do it for them, no account or key needed.

1. Read the fields and their allowed values: GET https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests
2. Ask the user for each value: email, apps, what you will do with them. If they leave the password to you, generate a strong one and show it to them.
3. Show the user what you will send, then POST it as JSON to https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests.

One call creates the account and sends the access request; we email the user when access is granted.
