# Throw a sale in your Teachers Pay Teachers store with AI

## Can Teachers Pay Teachers do this on its own?

Teachers Pay Teachers has no API for sales (checked 12 Oct 2026). Throw A Sale schedules one sale with fixed dates, the sitewide toggle enrolls your store in TPT's own sitewide sales, and Seller Discounts under Promotions target followers or buyers who left items in their cart. None of these picks products by a rule or announces the sale, so each sale is still set up and announced by hand.

## How you do it in Teachers Pay Teachers today

1. Click the store icon at the top right of TPT, select Throw A Sale under Promotions, and click New sale.
2. Pick 5%, 10%, 15% or 20% in the Discount drop-down and set the Sale period dates.
3. Select the products: a single resource, several resources or the entire store. Then click Schedule sale.
4. Open Note to Followers from the same store icon menu, click Compose Note, write the announcement and use Preview & Send to pick the send date.
5. During a TPT sitewide sale, resources you create or activate are not enrolled until you switch the sitewide toggle on the Throw A Sale page off and on again. That step is easy to forget when you upload mid-sale.

The agent calls list\_products with status active and your custom category, because inactive listings are hidden from buyers and gain nothing from a sale. When you name a topic rather than a category ("all fraction resources"), it shows the matched titles and asks before going on.

### Keep the discount to what TPT accepts  
TPT sales come only in 5, 10, 15 or 20 percent. If you ask for 25% off, the agent explains that 25% exists only during a sitewide sale, where TPT's 5% promo code stacks on a 20% seller sale, and offers 20% with your sitewide dates.

### Check for an overlap  
When you say a Seller Discount for followers is running, the agent warns that TPT never combines it with a sale and applies the higher discount at checkout, so the follower offer does nothing during those dates.
4. 04  
### Schedule the sale  
After your OK on the dates, discount and product count, the agent calls schedule\_sale with the product IDs. With no category or topic given, it asks whether you mean the whole store before sending an empty product list.
5. 05  
### Draft the announcement  
The agent writes a Note to Followers that names the discount, the end date and the resources on sale, dated for the first day of the sale. TPT describes the Note to Followers as a weekly message, so the agent asks whether the sale should be this week's note and sends it with send\_note\_to\_followers only after you approve the text.

- Run 10% off on everything in my Back to School category from 1 to 7 August, without a note.
- Each month, put a different custom category on 15% off for one weekend and draft the note for it.

Before you automate it

## What Teachers Pay Teachers allows, and what to know first

- The Discount drop-down on the TPT Throw A Sale page offers only 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% off.
- During a TPT sitewide sale, buyers who enter TPT's promo code get 5% on top of the seller's discount, so a 20% seller sale becomes 25% off.
- Resources created or activated during a running TPT sitewide sale are not enrolled automatically; the sitewide toggle on the Throw A Sale page has to be switched off and back on.
- TPT Seller Discounts cannot be combined with another sale running at the same time; at checkout the higher discount applies by default.
- A TPT Note to Followers is a weekly message that can be scheduled for a later date with Preview & Send.

schedule\_sale and send\_note\_to\_followers ask for your OK by default. To run it weekly without you, switch confirmation off for those tools in your dashboard.
