# Add a list of titles to your Trakt watchlist

> Turn a pasted list of movies and shows into Trakt watchlist entries, matched by title and year, duplicates skipped. From Claude Code, n8n or a script.

Source: https://cotlet.dev/integrations/trakt-api-mcp-server/bulk-add-to-watchlist

You have ten titles from a newsletter, a friend or a notes file, and each one means searching Trakt and adding it to the watchlist by hand.

Cotlet does it in your own Trakt account with search\_titles, get\_watchlist and add\_to\_watchlist, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Trakt do this on its own?

The Trakt REST API adds many titles to the watchlist in one POST, and it is open to any registered app (checked 17 Oct 2026). It needs your own API app, OAuth sign-in and code, and it has no official MCP server, so an agent cannot call it without that work. Trakt VIP is documented to raise the watchlist limit.

## How you do it in Trakt today

1. Search for the title on Trakt and open the right movie or show page, checking the year when several titles share a name.
2. Add the title to your watchlist from its page.
3. Repeat for every title on the list, then open the watchlist to see whether anything is missing or doubled.

## How to add a list of titles to your Trakt watchlist

Prompt

```
Add these to my Trakt watchlist: Past Lives (2023), Slow Horses (2022) and Perfect Days (2023). Skip anything already on it and tell me which titles you could not match.
```

1. 01
### Match each title
search\_titles runs once per line with title and year, so "Past Lives (2023)" is not confused with an older film of the same name. A line with several equal matches goes to the not-matched list instead of a guess.
2. 02
### Read what you already have
get\_watchlist is paged through first, so a title already on it is reported as already there and not sent again.
3. 03
### Check the room
get\_account\_limits shows the watchlist item limit of your account. If the new titles would not fit, the agent adds what fits and tells you how many are left.
4. 04
### Add the rest in one call
add\_to\_watchlist sends all matched titles together. It reaches no one and remove\_from\_watchlist undoes it, so it runs without asking unless you turn confirmation on.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Titles in your message: 3
Added 3 (2 movies, 1 show)
Already on your watchlist: 0
Not matched: 0
Watchlist room left: see get_account_limits
```

### Other ways to ask

- Add every movie from this pasted list to my watchlist, but only the ones released after 2020.
- Read my watchlist and move everything I have already watched in the last year out of it.
- Every Sunday, add the titles from my notes file to the watchlist and clear the file.

## What Trakt allows, and what to know first

- The Trakt API lets an app add movies, shows, seasons and episodes to the watchlist; a show on its own adds just the show, not its seasons.
- A free Trakt account has a watchlist item limit, and the API returns a 420 error when it is exceeded.
- Account limits can differ by account and change over time, so Trakt tells apps to read them from the settings call instead of hardcoding them.
- Watchlist notes on an item are a Trakt VIP feature.

add\_to\_watchlist changes only your own Trakt data and reach no one else, so it runs without asking first.

## Call add\_to\_watchlist from a script

curl

```
curl -X POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/trakt/watchlists \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"items":[{"type":"movie","title":"Past Lives","year":2023},{"type":"show","title":"Slow Horses","year":2022},{"type":"movie","title":"Perfect Days","year":2023}]}'
```

Example response

```
{
"added": {
"movies": 2,
"shows": 1
},
"already_on_watchlist": 0,
"not_found": []
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is trakt\_write → add\_to\_watchlist. Example data.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it safe to connect Trakt to Cotlet?

Yes. You sign in to Trakt yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get Trakt once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.

## For AI agents: sign your user up

Is your user asking you to sign them up for Cotlet? You can do it for them, no account or key needed.

1. Read the fields and their allowed values: GET https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests
2. Ask the user for each value: email, apps, what you will do with them. If they leave the password to you, generate a strong one and show it to them.
3. Show the user what you will send, then POST it as JSON to https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests.

One call creates the account and sends the access request; we email the user when access is granted.
