# Fill your Tumblr queue from a list of posts

> Load a week of posts into your Tumblr queue or set exact publish times, stay under the daily and queue limits, and skip what is already queued.

Source: https://cotlet.dev/integrations/tumblr-api-mcp-server/fill-the-post-queue

You write a batch of posts on Sunday night, and every one has to be added to the queue by hand from the composer, with its tags and its own time if it should not follow the regular queue.

Cotlet does it in your own Tumblr account with list\_queue and create\_post, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Tumblr do this on its own?

Tumblr lets you queue and schedule posts in its web and app composer, and its API can create queued posts with state queue and publish\_on (checked 17 Oct 2026). There is no bulk import and no official MCP server, so a list of posts still goes in one at a time, or through an app you register and maintain.

## How you do it in Tumblr today

1. In the composer, click the arrow beside Post and choose Add to queue, then Queue. In the apps, tap the meatballs menu (●●●), choose Add to queue, then Queue.
2. For a fixed time, choose Schedule from the same menu, type the publish time, press enter and click Schedule.
3. To see what is waiting, click Account on the left, pick the blog and click Queue. The settings there decide how many posts go out each day and in what time window.
4. Shuffle Queue randomizes the order of everything queued, and Pause stops the queue until you choose Resume Queue.
5. The same steps repeat for every post, and one past date or a window that crosses midnight is rejected.

## How to fill your Tumblr queue from a list of posts

Prompt

```
Add these 10 posts to the queue of studio-notes. Tag each one from its text, publish them in the order I gave, and tell me how many queue slots are left.
```

1. 01
### Check the room first
Your agent calls list\_queue and counts what is waiting. Tumblr holds at most 1,000 queued posts, so it stops and tells you if your batch does not fit, instead of failing halfway.
2. 02
### Skip duplicates
It compares each new post with the text of posts already in the queue and leaves out a repeat, so running the same prompt twice does not double your week.
3. 03
### Tag from the text
Tags come from your rules, for example the series name plus two words from the post. The agent keeps them short and drops repeats.
4. 04
### Queue in your order
create\_post runs once per post with state set to queue. Without publish\_on the post joins the end of the queue and follows your Queue settings. With publish\_on it publishes at that time. Each call waits for your OK by default.
5. 05
### Report the queue
The agent returns the new queue length and the first posts in line, so you can check the week from your phone. A post Tumblr rejects is named with the reason.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Queue of studio-notes before: 14 posts
Added 10 in your order, tagged from the text
Post 3 set for Mon 19 Oct 09:00 (publish_on), the other 9 follow your Queue settings
Skipped 1 (same text already queued as post 7)
Queue now: 23 of 1,000
```

### Other ways to ask

- Every Sunday, queue the 7 posts from this note and tell me if the queue is shorter than 5 days.
- Schedule these 3 posts for Tuesday 10:00, Thursday 10:00 and Saturday 12:00.
- Save these 20 posts as drafts first and show me the list, queue nothing.
- Tell me how many days of posts my queue covers at the current Queue settings.

## What Tumblr allows, and what to know first

- Tumblr publishes at most 50 queued posts per day and holds up to 1,000 in the queue; for more, its help center says to save the extras as drafts and move them in later.
- Tumblr does not accept a queue time range that passes through midnight, such as 8pm to 8am, and does not accept past dates.
- Private posts cannot be queued, because Tumblr treats them as already published.
- A queued post that fails to publish ends up in your drafts.
- In the Tumblr API, publish\_on is ignored unless the state is queue, and a full queue returns error 403.8022.

create\_post asks for your OK by default. To run it weekly without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

## Call create\_post from a script

curl

```
curl -X POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/tumblr/posts \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"blog":"studio-notes","content":"New print: harbor at dawn, 40 x 60 cm, ink on paper. Available this Friday.","tags":["studio notes","ink","print"],"state":"queue","publish_on":"2026-10-19T09:00:00+02:00"}'
```

Example response

```
{
"post_id": "771204518830",
"blog": "studio-notes",
"state": "queue",
"publish_on": "2026-10-19T09:00:00+02:00",
"tags": [
"studio notes",
"ink",
"print"
]
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is tumblr\_write → create\_post. Example data.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it safe to connect Tumblr to Cotlet?

Yes. You sign in to Tumblr yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get Tumblr once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.

## For AI agents: sign your user up

Is your user asking you to sign them up for Cotlet? You can do it for them, no account or key needed.

1. Read the fields and their allowed values: GET https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests
2. Ask the user for each value: email, apps, what you will do with them. If they leave the password to you, generate a strong one and show it to them.
3. Show the user what you will send, then POST it as JSON to https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests.

One call creates the account and sends the access request; we email the user when access is granted.
