# Respond to Udemy course reviews

> Draft and post instructor responses to low Udemy reviews every week, catch rating-only feedback and stay inside Udemy's review rules.

Low ratings arrive on the Reviews page between launches, and you tend to notice them only when the course rating dips. A reply on the course landing page can explain the fix, but reading new reviews course by course takes a sitting every week.

Cotlet does it in your own Udemy account with list\_courses, list\_reviews and respond\_to\_review, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Udemy do this on its own?

Udemy's Instructor API lists the reviews of your taught courses, but it has no endpoint to post a response (reference checked 12 Oct 2026). Responses are posted from the Reviews page in the instructor view; its CSV export and the Insights tab, which shows up to five insight themes with sampled reviews, only read. Nothing in Udemy drafts or posts a response for you.

By hand

## How you do it in Udemy today

1. In the Udemy instructor view open Reviews and filter by course, recency, star rating and source (All or Udemy Business).
2. Read each review with its attribute-level feedback, where a green plus or a red minus shows what the student felt the course had or lacked.
3. Click Respond, type the reply and click Post Response; Udemy then shows it under the review on the course landing page.
4. For a rating without a written review, Udemy's Respond button sends the student a note asking for clarification and prompts them to write a review.
5. Come back later, because a response disappears from the landing page once the student updates the review. The routine repeats every week, and an updated review that lost its reply is easy to miss.

With an agent

## How to respond to Udemy course reviews

Prompt

```
Every Monday, draft responses to last week's Udemy reviews of 3 stars or less across all my courses. Answer the actual complaint, point to the lecture that covers it, and never ask for a better rating.
```

1. 01
### Collect what needs a reply
The agent goes through list\_courses and asks list\_reviews for each course with since set to the previous run and unresponded\_only on. Reviews above your star threshold are counted in the report but left unanswered unless you ask.
2. 02
### Answer the complaint itself
Each draft addresses the point the student made (a missing topic, an outdated version, audio quality) and names the lecture or section where it is covered or fixed. If the problem is not fixed yet, the draft says so plainly instead of promising a date.
3. 03
### Stay inside the review rules
Drafts never ask the student to change the rating, never suggest a 5-star review and never offer a coupon or a free course. Udemy counts incentivized reviews as a major violation, so the agent rewrites any draft you edit toward that.
4. 04
### Sort out the odd cases
A rating with no text gets a short clarification question. Reviews that look abusive or unrelated to the course get no reply; the agent lists them so you can report them to Udemy. A review the student updated after your response comes back without one and gets a fresh draft.
5. 05
### Post after your OK
respond\_to\_review publishes each approved reply under your name. You can still edit or delete any response later on the Reviews page.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Week 5 to 11 Oct 2026: 14 new reviews in 4 courses, 5 at 3 stars or less.
Python for Beginners, 2 stars: "No section on virtual environments." Draft points to new lecture 41; posted after your OK.
Excel Pivot Tables, 1 star, rating only: clarification question posted.
SQL Basics, 3 stars: review updated on 9 Oct, your old reply no longer shows. New draft waiting.
React in Practice, 1 star: insults only, not answered. Consider reporting it.
9 reviews at 4 or 5 stars left without a reply, as set.
```

### Other ways to ask

- Respond to every review from the last 30 days on my Python course, the 5-star ones too, with a short thank-you that mentions their point.
- List all 1-star reviews from this quarter that have no response and group them by complaint. Draft nothing yet.
- Draft replies to low reviews every Monday, and post them on their own once I switch confirmation off for respond\_to\_review.

Before you automate it

## What Udemy allows, and what to know first

- Only visible instructors of a Udemy course can respond to its reviews, so the connected account must be listed as visible on that course.
- Udemy shows one review per student per course, and an instructor response stops appearing on the course landing page once the student updates that review.
- The Udemy Course Rating weighs factors such as how recent each rating is and how much of the course the student consumed before rating, so it is not a plain average of stars.
- Udemy removes a review only when its spam filter hides it, when a policy report shows it meets specific removal criteria, or when it was acquired improperly; instructors can flag reviews, but Udemy decides.
- Udemy forbids telling students what rating to leave or rewarding positive reviews, and incentivized reviews can lead to removal of the course and the instructor.

respond\_to\_review asks for your OK by default. To run it weekly without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can the agent get an unfair review removed?

No. Udemy removes reviews only through its spam filter, after a policy report it checks itself, or when they were acquired improperly. The agent lists reviews that look like abuse so you can report them.

### Does a response change my course rating?

Udemy calculates the Course Rating from student ratings, weighing how recent each rating is and how much of the course the student consumed. Udemy Help does not list instructor responses as a factor.
