# Sort Vimeo videos into folders automatically

> Move loose Vimeo videos into the right folder by title, 50 at a time, and list what does not match. Runs weekly from your agent, hosted.

Source: https://cotlet.dev/integrations/vimeo-api-mcp-server/organize-videos-into-folders

New uploads land in My library, and every week somebody ticks videos one by one and moves them into the right folder, or the library turns into a flat list of hundreds.

Cotlet does it in your own Vimeo account with search\_videos, list\_folders and move\_videos\_to\_folder, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

## Can Vimeo do this on its own?

Vimeo has no rule that files a new video into a folder by its title or tags. You choose a folder on the Upload page or move videos by hand afterwards. The API has folder endpoints, but you build the matching logic and run the OAuth app (checked 17 Oct 2026). The official MCP server does not list folder management.

## How you do it in Vimeo today

1. Open your Library and tick the box on the left of each video thumbnail or row.
2. Select Move at the top of the selection.
3. Choose the destination folder and select Move.
4. To move one video, open its folder and drag it into another folder in the left panel.
5. Repeat per folder. Vimeo moves up to 50 selected videos at a time, so a large backlog takes several rounds.

## How to sort Vimeo videos into folders automatically

Prompt

```
List the videos in my Vimeo library that are not in a folder. Move the ones whose title starts with "Webinar" to the Webinars folder and the ones with "Tutorial" to Tutorials. Show me the rest.
```

1. 01
### List loose videos
search\_videos returns videos with their current folder, and the agent keeps the ones still in My library.
2. 02
### Read the folder tree
list\_folders returns each folder with its ID and parent, so your rule ("Webinar goes to Webinars") points at a folder that exists. A rule that names a missing folder is reported, not created.
3. 03
### Match by your rule
The agent applies your rule to each title and groups the videos by destination. Titles that fit no rule stay where they are and go on the report.
4. 04
### Move in batches of 50
move\_videos\_to\_folder moves one group per call, cut to 50 videos because that is the most Vimeo moves at once. The share link and embed code of a moved video do not change.

### What you get back

Example data

```
Loose videos found: 31
Moved 24:
- 14 to Webinars
- 10 to Tutorials
Left in My library 7:
- Q3 board recap
- Office tour 2026
- 5 untitled uploads
```

### Other ways to ask

- Move everything uploaded last month into a folder named after the month, creating it first if I confirm.
- Only show me which videos would move and where. Move nothing.
- Move videos tagged "customer" into the Customer stories subfolder.

## What Vimeo allows, and what to know first

- A video lives in one folder at a time. It cannot be in several folders.
- Subfolders go up to 10 levels deep and inherit the permissions of the parent folder.
- Moving a video does not change its share link or embed code.
- On Free, Basic and Plus plans folders are visible only to the account owner. On team accounts you need permission to move videos between My library and the Team library.

move\_videos\_to\_folder changes only your own Vimeo data and reach no one else, so it runs without asking first.

## Call move\_videos\_to\_folder from a script

curl

```
curl -X POST https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/vimeo/folders/20481/videos-to-folder/move \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $COTLET_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{"video_ids":["912345611","912345612","912345613"]}'
```

Example response

```
{
"folder_id": "20481",
"folder": "Webinars",
"moved": 3,
"skipped": []
}
```

MCP: add https://cotlet.dev/mcp/v1 with the same key; the call is vimeo\_write → move\_videos\_to\_folder. Example data.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it safe to connect Vimeo to Cotlet?

Yes. You sign in to Vimeo yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get Vimeo once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.

## For AI agents: sign your user up

Is your user asking you to sign them up for Cotlet? You can do it for them, no account or key needed.

1. Read the fields and their allowed values: GET https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests
2. Ask the user for each value: email, apps, what you will do with them. If they leave the password to you, generate a strong one and show it to them.
3. Show the user what you will send, then POST it as JSON to https://cotlet.dev/api/v1/access-requests.

One call creates the account and sends the access request; we email the user when access is granted.
