Proofread a Polarsteps trip before printing a Travel Book

You are back home and about to order a Travel Book. The step stories were typed on a phone in buses and hostels, and every typo in them will be printed.

Cotlet does it in your own Polarsteps account with list_trips, list_steps, get_step and update_step, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Official options

Can Polarsteps do this on its own?

Polarsteps has no API to edit steps (checked 12 Oct 2026). The Travel Book editor can rearrange photos and switch step text on or off, but to change any step text you edit the step in the trip itself, one step at a time.

By hand

How you do it in Polarsteps today

  1. Open the finished trip in the Polarsteps app and tap the first step on the timeline.
  2. Tap "Edit step", correct the story, and save before moving on.
  3. Repeat for every step, since the Travel Book editor can hide step text but cannot correct it.
  4. Generate the book from "My Travel Books" in Settings, page through the preview with the magnifying glass, and go back to the trip for each mistake you spot.
  5. Typos in step 31 of 40 are easy to miss, and each fix means leaving the book preview and finding the step again.

How to proofread a Polarsteps trip before printing a Travel Book

Prompt

I am ordering a Travel Book of my New Zealand trip. Fix typos and capitals in every step story, keep my wording, and do not touch dates or places.
  1. 01

    Pick the trip being printed

The agent lists your past trips and confirms the one you are ordering. If the book is already ordered, it asks first, because Polarsteps asks you not to change the trip while an order is processed.

  2. 02

    Read every story in full

It reads each step with get_step, not the short preview from the list, and skips steps that have no text.

  3. 03

    Correct, not rewrite

It fixes spelling, capitals and punctuation, and keeps your slang, the local names and the language you wrote in. A sentence it would change in meaning is left as it is and noted for you.

  4. 04

    Clean the layout traps

It removes spaces and empty lines after the last sentence, because those stop the book from placing a photo next to a short text.

  5. 05

    Save text only

update_step gets only title and story, never date or place, so the route line in the book does not move. You see each change before it is saved, unless you switch confirmation off.

What you get back

Example data

Trip: New Zealand South Island (34 steps, 29 with text)
Corrected: 22 steps, 71 fixes (spelling 48, capitals 15, punctuation 8)
Cleaned trailing empty lines: 6 steps
Left for you: step "Milford Sound", unclear sentence about the ferry time
Not touched: dates, places, photos
Next: generate the Travel Book again from My Travel Books

Other ways to ask

  • Only list the typos in my Portugal trip, do not change anything.
  • Proofread the steps I added this week on my current trip.
  • Translate my step stories to English for the book, keeping the originals in a file.

Before you automate it

What Polarsteps allows, and what to know first

  • The Polarsteps Travel Book editor can switch step text on or off, but changing the text itself happens in the step in the trip.
  • A Polarsteps Travel Book places a photo next to step text only when the text fits one column, and extra spaces or line breaks at the end block it.
  • Polarsteps generates a Travel Book only from published steps, and the trip needs at least five published photos.
  • After a Travel Book order, Polarsteps can take up to 24 hours to process it and asks you not to change the trip or the book settings in that time.
  • Comments, likes and spots are not shown in a Polarsteps Travel Book, so a reply under a step reaches paper only if you copy it into the step text.

update_step asks for your OK by default. To run it on a schedule without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.
