Bandcamp automation · runs after each show
Update Bandcamp merch stock after a show
The merch box went on tour, the table sold records and shirts every night, and Bandcamp still shows the old counts. Fans online can buy a size you no longer have.
Cotlet does it in your own Bandcamp account with list_merch_items and update_merch_quantity, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Can Bandcamp do this on its own?
Bandcamp's Merch Orders API has update_quantities, for labels and fulfillment partners that Bandcamp approves (checked 12 Oct 2026). Bandcamp Sync for Shopify, a beta for Pro and Label accounts, keeps stock in step with a Shopify store by matching SKUs. Neither covers cash sales at a merch table for an artist without Shopify, so those counts are edited item by item.
By hand
How you do it in Bandcamp today
- Open your Bandcamp merch page, click the item and go to the Quantities section of the merch editor.
- Find the right shipping origin and option (each size or color has its own count) and type the new number; 0 marks it Sold Out and an empty field means unlimited.
- Save, then repeat for every item and option you sold at the show.
- Work out each new number by hand from the old one, while Bandcamp keeps lowering the same counts as online orders come in. A typo or a stale number from this morning oversells a shirt that is already gone.
With an agent
How to update Bandcamp merch stock after a show
Prompt
We sold 9 black Night Drive LPs, 4 red ones and 11 tour tees (3 S, 5 M, 3 L) at the merch table last night. Take them off my Bandcamp stock and tell me what is low. - 01
Subtract, never overwrite
You give the agent what sold, not the new totals. It maps each line to an item and option from list_merch_items by title, color and size, and works out the new count from the live number.
- 02
Pick the origin that holds the tour stock
With more than one shipping origin, the agent asks once which origin the tour box belongs to and uses it for every line, leaving your home or distributor stock alone.
- 03
Re-read right before writing
Online orders keep lowering the same counts, so the agent reads the item again immediately before update_merch_quantity. If the number moved since your message, it subtracts from the new figure.
- 04
Stop at zero and unclear lines
A result below zero is set to 0 (Sold Out) and reported, since Bandcamp may already have sold the last copy online. A line it cannot map, such as "hoodies" when two hoodie items exist, is asked about, not guessed.
- 05
Flag what runs low
After the update it lists options under your threshold per origin, so you know which size to reprint before the next city.
What you get back
Example data
Tour origin updated.
Night Drive LP Black: 15 to 6. Red: 9 to 5.
Tour Tee S: 6 to 3. M: 7 to 2. L: 3 to 0 (now Sold Out).
Re-read before saving: Tour Tee M had dropped from 8 to 7 by an online order, so it was used.
Low (under 5): Tour Tee S and M, Band Tote (4 at the home origin). Other ways to ask
- Set the Band Tote to 40 at my home origin; the reprint just arrived.
- Every morning on tour, ask me what sold last night and update Bandcamp, then list anything under 5.
- Mark every option of the 2024 tour shirt Sold Out; we are not reprinting it.
Before you automate it
What Bandcamp allows, and what to know first
- Bandcamp lowers the quantity on its own when an item sells on Bandcamp, so only sales made elsewhere, like at shows or on another site, need a manual edit.
- Bandcamp keeps a separate inventory for each shipping origin and routes each order to the origin with the cheapest rate for the buyer that has stock.
- In the Bandcamp merch editor, a quantity of 0 marks the item Sold Out and an empty quantity means unlimited.
- Bandcamp Sync for Shopify treats Shopify as the source of truth, needs an identical SKU on every Bandcamp option, and links one Bandcamp account to one Shopify store.
- Bandcamp's own update_quantities API call asks for the current quantity_sold to guard against a sale landing during the update.
update_merch_quantity changes only your own Bandcamp data and reach no one else, so it runs without asking first.
