Joy automation · runs weekly
Send Joy RSVP reminders to guests who have not replied
Three weeks before the RSVP deadline the Responses tab in Joy still shows a long pending count. You want those parties nudged every week until it closes, and the guests with no email address on a separate list to call.
Cotlet does it in your own Joy account with list_events, get_rsvp_summary, list_guests and send_rsvp_reminder, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Can Joy do this on its own?
Joy has a built-in RSVP reminder under Messaging that preselects guests with no response and is free by email (checked 12 Oct 2026). Joy has no API, webhook or Zapier action for it, and the help center describes no repeating reminder: each send is started by hand, and choosing a later send time requires Messaging Plus, a one-time purchase. The warning icons show who will be skipped, but turning them into a call list is up to you.
By hand
How you do it in Joy today
- From the Joy Event Dashboard, open RSVP > Responses, or the RSVP Tracking icon on the Guest List toolbar, to read the attending, declined and pending counts.
- Open Messaging > Create and choose RSVP reminder, then pick Email, Text or Both as the Delivery Method.
- Click Select Recipients. Joy preselects guests who have not responded and shows a warning icon next to anyone missing the email or phone number for that method.
- Edit the From name, Subject and message, click Next, then Send Now on the Confirm & Send screen.
- The Joy help center describes no repeating reminder, so the same screens come back every week, and scheduling a reminder for a later time needs Messaging Plus, a one-time purchase.

How to send Joy RSVP reminders to guests who have not replied
Prompt
Our RSVP deadline is May 15. Tell me how many guests are coming, then email an RSVP reminder to every party that has not answered and list the ones you cannot reach. - 01
Count first, then decide
The agent opens with get_rsvp_summary. A pending count of zero ends the run with the final numbers for the venue. When your deadline has already passed, it does not send anything and asks whether you opened a grace period.
- 02
Chase parties, not seats
list_guests with no_response gives the people still out. The agent groups them by party, because one guest in Joy answers for the whole party, and sends one reminder per party to the guest with an email. Blank plus-ones are never chased on their own.
- 03
Split who can be reached
Guests with no email go on a call list instead of being dropped silently. Text goes out only when you say Messaging Plus is active and the numbers are US or Canadian, the only ones Joy texts.
- 04
Show the draft, then send
The first run shows you the subject and text with your deadline date in it. After your OK, send_rsvp_reminder goes to the chosen guest IDs, not to everyone pending, so a party you told it to skip stays skipped.
- 05
Escalate repeat silence
On the next weekly run the agent compares with the last one. A party reminded twice and still pending is moved to your personal follow-up list rather than getting a third identical email.
What you get back
Example data
Maria and Tom, deadline May 15: 74 attending, 9 declined, 37 pending.
Pending guests belong to 21 parties; reminder emailed to 18 of them after your OK.
No email on file, call instead: Aunt Rosa (Lopez party), the Harts, Dev Patel.
Second reminder this month for the Novak and Brandt parties; added to your follow-up list.
Subject sent: "One week left to RSVP for Maria and Tom". Other ways to ask
- How many guests are coming, and who still has not replied to the RSVP?
- Every Monday until May 15, remind the pending parties by email and send me the call list.
- Remind only guests tagged Rehearsal who have not answered the rehearsal dinner invite.
- Send the reminder by text to pending guests with US numbers; we bought Messaging Plus.
Before you automate it
What Joy allows, and what to know first
- Joy closes the RSVP deadline at midnight in the event's time zone, not the guest's, and the RSVP button then disappears from the event website.
- Joy can keep replies open after the deadline with Allow late RSVPs (grace period), 24 hours by default and up to 7 days.
- Text reminders in Joy need Messaging Plus, and Joy delivers SMS only to US and Canadian phone numbers; scheduled texts go out on the half hour.
- With Restrict RSVP To Guest List on, Joy accepts a reply only when the guest types their name as it appears on the list, ignoring capitalization, so a reminder to someone listed under a nickname can still end in a failed RSVP.
send_rsvp_reminder asks for your OK by default. To run it weekly without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

Frequently asked questions
What happens to guests who reply after the deadline?
Joy hides the RSVP button once the deadline passes and shows your Post-deadline message instead, if you wrote one. Late replies are possible only while Allow late RSVPs (grace period) is on, set under RSVP > Settings.
