Send Joy thank-you notes for registry gifts
After the wedding the Joy gift tracker fills with physical gifts and cash fund contributions. Every giver should get a note that names what they gave, and the list is long enough to stall for weeks.
Cotlet does it in your own Joy account with list_received_gifts and send_thank_you_note, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Can Joy do this on its own?
Joy has free digital thank-you notes in the Gift Tracker for couples with a Joy registry (checked 12 Oct 2026), and no API for them. Joy drafts one note per gift and sends it after you review it, one giver at a time; the help center describes no bulk send. A purchase made straight on a public Amazon or Crate & Barrel registry does not track on Joy, so it never shows in the Gift Tracker where the Write Thank You button lives.
By hand
How you do it in Joy today
- Click the Manage icon on the Joy admin dashboard and open the Tracking tab to reach the Gift Tracker.
- Click Write Thank You next to a gift. Joy writes a first draft from the gift tracker data.
- Click Edit Email to change the text, subject line, reply-to address or photo, then Save and Next.
- On Confirm & Send, send a test email to yourself, click Send Now, then Thank Another Guest to go back for the next gift.
- Every Joy thank-you is a separate trip through the same screens, and a gift bought on an outside store appears only if the guest came back to Joy and confirmed the purchase.

How to send Joy thank-you notes for registry gifts
Prompt
Go through every gift in our Joy registry tracker since the wedding, draft a thank-you for each giver that names what they gave, and send them in batches of ten after I read them. - 01
Start from what is still open
list_received_gifts, from the wedding date or the date of your last batch, gives each gift with its giver. Gifts already thanked are skipped, so a run picked up a week later continues where the last one stopped.
- 02
One note per person
A guest who bought the mixer and also gave to the honeymoon fund gets one note that mentions both. The agent sends it on the first gift and lists the second as covered, so nobody is thanked twice.
- 03
Write it in your voice
Each draft names the item or fund and follows a sample note you give once. Cash fund notes name the fund, such as the honeymoon, and leave the amount out unless you ask for it.
- 04
Skip what cannot be matched
A gift with no giver name is left out of the batch and reported, since a guessed recipient is worse than a late note. Those usually need a quick message to the couple's family or a look at the store order.
- 05
Batches you can read
Drafts come in groups of about ten. send_thank_you_note goes out for each one you approve, and edits you make to a draft are applied before it is sent.
What you get back
Example data
Gift tracker since June 12: 64 gifts from 51 givers, 9 already thanked.
Batch 1 of 5: 10 drafts ready for review.
Sent after your OK: Ana Lopez (stand mixer and honeymoon fund), the Harts (dinnerware, 8 place settings).
Covered by Ana's note, not sent again: honeymoon fund gift gft_7740.
No giver name, skipped: "Linen napkins" bought June 20. Other ways to ask
- Who bought what from our registry, and who have we not thanked yet?
- Every Sunday, draft thank-yous for the gifts that arrived during the week and show them to me.
- Thank only the cash fund contributors, mentioning the fund each person gave to.
Before you automate it
What Joy allows, and what to know first
- The Joy Gift Tracker shows the giver automatically only for gifts bought through Joy; a purchase made directly on a public Amazon or Crate & Barrel registry does not track on Joy.
- For gifts bought on an outside store, Joy does not update the tracker on its own: the guest has to return to Joy and confirm the purchase.
- The Joy Gift Tracker lists how much each guest put into a cash fund, and clicking a guest's name shows every gift that guest chose.
- A new photo for a Joy thank-you note has to be uploaded to the Photos section of the Admin Dashboard first; only then does it appear in the Photo dropdown.
send_thank_you_note asks for your OK by default. To run it on a schedule without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.
