Kiwi.com automation

Add a checked bag to a Kiwi.com booking

You booked with a personal item only, and a week before the trip you decide to bring a suitcase. On Kiwi.com that means opening the trip, working out which bag fits every carrier and paying before the 36-hour cutoff.

Cotlet does it in your own Kiwi.com account with list_trips, get_trip, get_baggage_options and add_baggage, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Official options

Can Kiwi.com do this on its own?

Kiwi.com has no API for baggage (checked 12 Oct 2026), and its official MCP server only searches flights. Bags added after booking are bought in your account, up to 36 hours before the trip. We found no reminder in Kiwi.com's help center for trips that approach that cutoff, and the whole-itinerary rule means a bag for part of a trip still needs a support conversation.

By hand

How you do it in Kiwi.com today

  1. Sign in to your Kiwi.com account and open the booked trip.
  2. Look at the baggage options Kiwi.com offers for the trip; their prices depend on the carriers and the conditions of that booking.
  3. Choose the bag for the right passenger and pay. The Kiwi.com website sells baggage for the whole itinerary only, so a bag for one leg means writing to Kiwi.com customer support.
  4. If no checked bag is offered, read the reason: self-transfers with layovers usually under 2 hours and hidden city itineraries are No-checked-bag itineraries on Kiwi.com.
  5. Every change of plan repeats the same visit. Missing the 36-hour cutoff leaves only the carrier or the airport desk, where many carriers charge more or limit the pieces.

With an agent

How to add a checked bag to a Kiwi.com booking

Prompt

Add one 20 kg checked bag for me to my Barcelona trip. Show me the price first, and stop if the trip is a self-transfer that does not allow checked bags.
  1. 01

Rule out trips that cannot take a bag

Before any price, the agent reads get_trip. A hidden city routing or a tight self-transfer stops the run with the reason, since Kiwi.com also advises against buying bags from the carrier for these trips.

  2. 02

    Check the clock

The agent compares the first departure with the current time. Inside 36 hours it does not try to buy; it says the Kiwi.com option is closed and the bag now goes through the carrier or the airport.

  3. 03

Match the request to one option

get_baggage_options lists pieces per passenger. The agent matches "20 kg, checked, for Ana" to a single option and shows its price. If only a heavier or two-piece option exists, it asks before choosing it rather than taking the closest one.

  4. 04

    Buy once, with your OK

add_baggage charges your payment method, and Kiwi.com will not remove the bag or move it to another traveler later. The confirmation names passenger, bag and price. A call that timed out is never repeated until get_trip shows whether the first one went through.

  5. 05

    Send part-trip bags to support

For a bag on only one leg the agent does not buy the whole-itinerary option. It drafts a message for Kiwi.com customer support with the booking number and the leg instead.

What you get back

Example data

PRG-BCN-PRG (512834907), Ana Lopez, departs 14 Nov at 07:20.
Options: checked bag 20 kg, EUR 64.00; cabin bag 10 kg, EUR 38.00.
Added after your OK: checked bag 20 kg for Ana Lopez, EUR 64.00, on both flights.
OPO-NCE (447019236): no bag options, the outbound is a self-transfer with a 1h 20m layover.

Other ways to ask

  • Which of my upcoming trips can still take a checked bag, and what does one cost on each?
  • Upgrade the 20 kg bag on my Barcelona trip to 32 kg if the carriers offer it.
  • Add cabin bags for both passengers on the Berlin trip, but only if the total stays under EUR 80.

Before you automate it

What Kiwi.com allows, and what to know first

  • Kiwi.com sells extra baggage until 36 hours before the trip; later, a bag can only be added through the carrier or at the airport, depending on the carrier.
  • Kiwi.com offers bags that meet the requirements of every carrier in the itinerary, while size and weight limits differ from airline to airline when you buy from a carrier directly.
  • Kiwi.com may add a processing fee to baggage bought after booking, depending on the service package of the trip.
  • A bag on a Kiwi.com booking cannot be removed or moved to another passenger, though an upgrade to more pieces or kilos is possible where the carriers offer it.
  • When a carrier system fails and Kiwi.com emails you to add the bag at the airport, Kiwi.com refunds the full airport fee, even above the online price, once you submit the receipt under Refunds and cancellations.

add_baggage asks for your OK by default. To run it on a schedule without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a trip show no bag options?

Kiwi.com does not offer checked bags on self-transfers with layovers usually under 2 hours or on hidden city itineraries, and some carriers do not allow checked bags at all. From 36 hours before departure Kiwi.com stops selling bags for any trip. get_baggage_options then returns an empty list.
