Write and publish Nextdoor business posts with an AI agent

The fall gutter check was meant to go up on Nextdoor on Monday, and by Thursday nobody had written it. Business posts reach the neighbors who Faved the page and whoever the feed shows them to, so a skipped week is a quiet week.

Cotlet does it in your own Nextdoor account with get_business_page, list_posts and create_post, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Official options

Can Nextdoor do this on its own?

Nextdoor's Publish API can create posts, but only for partners Nextdoor approves, and it has no read side (checked 12 Oct 2026). The open Share plugin only shares content from another site into Nextdoor, and the Zapier app has no posting action. Inside Nextdoor a business posts by hand from the Post button; we found no scheduling option in Nextdoor's help article on business posts.

By hand

How you do it in Nextdoor today

  1. Verify the Business Page first. Nextdoor gives Business Posts only to claimed and verified pages, through Settings > Verify with a business license, tax registration or a similar document.
  2. Log in or switch to the business profile, then click Post in the left menu on web (the bottom menu in the iPhone and Android apps).
  3. Enter the text, add photos, video, an event or a poll if you want, and click Post.
  4. Fix a typo later from the menu to the right of the post with Edit, then Save. Nextdoor marks the post with the edit date, sends no new email notifications and does not move it back up the newsfeed.
  5. Write something new again next week. Nextdoor treats repeated or templated posts as spam, so last month's post cannot simply be pasted again.

How to write and publish Nextdoor business posts with an AI agent

Prompt

Write this week's Nextdoor post from my notes on the fall gutter checks, make sure it does not repeat a recent post, and publish it after I approve.
  1. 01

    Check the page may post

get_business_page confirms the signed-in account runs a claimed page and returns its category. If Nextdoor refuses the post because the page is not verified yet, the agent stops and points you to Settings > Verify. A political business or CBD seller hears up front that Nextdoor lets it keep a page but not post.

  2. 02

Write for neighbors, not like an ad

The draft opens with something local and useful: changed hours, an event, a tip from your trade or a question for the neighborhood. Links to Craigslist, OfferUp or Marketplace, claims you cannot back up and remarks about competitors stay out, since Nextdoor's posting guidelines forbid them.

  3. 03

    Compare with recent posts

list_posts returns what you published over the last weeks. When the new draft is close to an earlier one, the agent changes the angle instead of reposting, because near-copies count as spam on Nextdoor.

  4. 04

    Publish after your OK

create_post sends the title and text once you approve. The agent promises no reach: Nextdoor decides how far a business post travels from reactions, comments, clicks and Faves.

  5. 05

    Edit, do not delete

For a mistake spotted after publishing, the agent tells you to use Edit in Nextdoor rather than delete and repost. An edited post keeps its place in the feed, and a reposted near-copy can read as spam.

What you get back

Example data

Page: Clearwater Gutter Care, category Gutter cleaning.
Recent posts checked: 4 in the last 30 days, latest on 8 Oct.
Published after your OK on Tue 13 Oct 09:02: "Fall gutter checks start Monday", 96 words, no links.
Held: the workshop question repeats most of the 29 Sep post. A new angle is suggested: ask which repair neighbors want shown.

Other ways to ask

  • Every Monday at 9:00, draft one Nextdoor post from the notes in my events doc and wait for my OK.
  • Post that we are closed on 26 Nov for Thanksgiving and open again on the 27th.
  • Give me three November post ideas that are not promotions, then publish only the one I pick.

Before you automate it

What Nextdoor allows, and what to know first

  • Nextdoor verification for Business Posts needs a current document (PDF, JPEG or PNG) whose business name matches the Business Page name exactly, punctuation included.
  • Nextdoor's help center says business posts have no fixed radius or mileage: a post reaches more neighbors as it gets reactions, comments and clicks, and neighbors who Faved the page are eligible to see it.
  • Business posting on Nextdoor has no count limit, but repeated, similar or templated posts count as spam and can lead to a warning, read-only access or suspension.
  • Only local businesses may post into the Nextdoor newsfeed. National brands and e-commerce companies cannot, while local franchises of national companies can.
  • A business event on Nextdoor appears as a post, and neighbors within 10 miles of the event location also see it when they browse events.

create_post asks for your OK by default. To run it weekly without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Can the agent add a photo or a poll to the post?

No. create_post takes a title and text. Nextdoor's own Post form adds photos, video, events and polls, so post those yourself from the Post button.

How do I reach neighbors further away?

Nextdoor points businesses to ads, which can reach neighbors up to 30 miles from the business. Cotlet has no ad tools; ads are set up from the business profile in Nextdoor.
