Reschedule or cancel a Riverside recording session

A guest writes on Wednesday night that Thursday no longer works. In Riverside that means finding the session in the right studio's Planner, editing it, and remembering that cancelling sends the guest nothing.

Cotlet does it in your own Riverside account with list_sessions, update_session, invite_guest and cancel_session, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Official options

Can Riverside do this on its own?

Riverside changes or removes sessions only in the studio Planner (checked 12 Oct 2026). The Business API lists scheduled events but cannot edit or delete them, and the Riverside help center says its official MCP cannot schedule sessions.

By hand

How you do it in Riverside today

  1. Open the studio, click Planner in the left sidebar and click the session on the calendar to open the event summary.
  2. To move it, click Edit in the bottom right corner, change the date, time or time zone and click Update session. Riverside emails guests, producer and audience members that the session changed.
  3. To resend a lost invite, open Edit, click the person's role next to their email, choose Remove this invite, enter the email again and click Update session.
  4. To cancel, click the three dots in the top right corner of the event summary and click Remove. The session leaves the Planner and the project folder.
  5. Removing a session in Riverside sends no email and leaves the Google Calendar event in place, while the guest's invite link stops working. Guests find out only if someone writes to them.

With an agent

How to reschedule or cancel a Riverside recording session

Prompt

My guest for Thursday's recording can't make it. Move the session to Friday at 11:00 London time and make sure they get the new time. If Friday is taken, cancel it and tell me who to email.
  1. 01

Find the right session, not just the right day

list_sessions across all studios for the date you mention, matched by guest email or episode title. If two sessions fit, for example a recurring show with a guest on both, the agent asks which one.

  2. 02

Check the new slot is free

Before moving anything, the agent looks at the target studio on the new day. An overlap would be refused by Riverside, so it proposes the nearest free time or stops and asks.

  3. 03

    Move with update_session

Only the start and end change; the title and invite list stay. Because a date or time change makes Riverside email everyone invited, the agent tells you that before you approve.

  4. 04

    Fix the invite list separately

A replacement guest or a co-host goes in with invite_guest. When the guest says the original email never arrived, the same call sends it again.

  5. 05

Cancel only with a plan for the guests

cancel_session runs only when you ask for a cancellation. Since Riverside sends no notice, the agent returns the list of invited people and a two-line message you can send them, and reminds you their calendar event is still there.

What you get back

Example data

Moved: "Episode 42: Pricing your first product"
Thu 15 Oct 15:00 > Fri 16 Oct 11:00 London (studio was free)
Riverside update email goes to guest@example.com and producer@example.com
Not changed: title, invite list
Cancelled: "Founders Q&A #18" on Tue 20 Oct. Riverside sent no notice; draft message for anna@example.com is below.

Other ways to ask

  • Push every session in my Product Hour studio next week by one day, same time, and tell me which ones clash.
  • Cancel all sessions with guest@example.com and list who was invited so I can write to them.
  • Resend the invite for Friday's recording to producer@example.com as a producer.

Before you automate it

What Riverside allows, and what to know first

  • A date or time change in the Riverside Planner emails the guests, producer and audience members, and the Google Calendar invite updates on its own.
  • Removing a Riverside session sends no email and does not update the Google Calendar event, so guests still see the old booking.
  • After a Riverside session is removed, or a person is taken off its invite list, the studio link in their original invite email no longer opens the studio.
  • After a Riverside recurring session is created, the Planner lets you edit a single date or all dates in the series at once.
  • Riverside refuses a session that overlaps another one in the same studio, so a move onto a taken slot needs a different studio, a shorter existing session or the existing session deleted.

update_session, invite_guest and cancel_session ask for your OK by default. To run it on a schedule without you, switch confirmation off for those tools in your dashboard.
