Sprout Social automation · runs weekly
Write a weekly Sprout Social performance summary
The numbers for last week are in Sprout, but someone still has to open the reports, compare them with the week before and explain which posts worked.
Cotlet does it in your own Sprout Social account with list_profiles, get_profile_performance and get_post_performance, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.
Hosted · nothing to install or maintain
Can Sprout Social do this on its own?
Sprout already schedules report PDFs weekly or monthly to up to 25 recipients, and custom reports need Premium Analytics (checked 17 Oct 2026). The PDF shows fixed widgets and writes no explanation. The Sprout API returns the same post and profile numbers on the Advanced plan, at 60 requests per minute. Sprout's MCP server is documented for ChatGPT only and limited to TikTok data. If a scheduled PDF is enough for you, you do not need this job.
How you do it in Sprout Social today
- Open Reports, choose a profile or post report and set the date range to last week.
- Read the post-level table and sort it by the metric you care about.
- Repeat for the previous week to see the change, and for each profile.
- For a repeating report, build a custom report under Reports > Custom Reports > Build Report, name it, pick widgets and save.
- Share, download or schedule it; a scheduled PDF goes out weekly or monthly to up to 25 recipients.
How to write a weekly Sprout Social performance summary
Every Monday, pull last week's post performance for all my Sprout profiles, name the three best posts and the weakest one, compare impressions with the week before, and write it as a short summary I can paste into Slack. - 01
Fix the two windows
The agent sets last Monday to Sunday and the week before as two separate ranges, so the comparison never mixes a partial current week with a full one.
- 02
Get the profile totals
get_profile_performance runs once per window for every profile from list_profiles, which gives the week-over-week change you quote at the top of the summary.
- 03
Rank the posts
get_post_performance pulls post-level numbers for the last week, and the agent picks the best three by engagements and the weakest one among posts with a similar reach.
- 04
Explain, do not guess
Each post is described from its own text, network and numbers. The agent does not claim a cause it cannot see, such as a paid boost or an outage.
- 05
Hand it to your channel
The summary is returned as text. In n8n or a script the next step posts it to Slack or email; reading Sprout changes nothing in your account.
What you get back
Week 12 to 18 Oct vs 5 to 11 Oct
Impressions 41,200 (+8%), engagements 2,150 (+3%)
Best posts:
- LinkedIn, product launch: 612 engagements
- Instagram reel, behind the scenes: 480
- Facebook, customer story: 351
Weakest: Instagram image, reminder post: 14 engagements Other ways to ask
- Do the same for the first of every month and cover the whole previous month.
- Report only the LinkedIn profile and list posts under 20 engagements.
- Compare this campaign's posts with the five best posts of the last quarter.
What Sprout Social allows, and what to know first
- Sprout's Report Builder is part of Premium Analytics and also needs the Manage Custom Reports permission, so a role without it cannot build a custom report by hand either.
- Scheduled report PDFs on the Advanced or Professional plan go to up to 25 recipients at a time, weekly or monthly.
- Sprout's API caps analytics at 60 requests per minute and 250,000 per month, which makes a weekly pull for dozens of profiles slow through the API.
- Sprout's Essentials plan includes profile and post-level reporting, so the numbers exist on every plan even when the API does not.
Every tool here only reads, so it can run weekly from n8n, Make, Zapier or cron without waiting for your OK.
