Wanderlog automation
Plan a Wanderlog trip itinerary with AI
You have a destination, dates and a pile of places saved from blogs, friends and the Explore tab. In Wanderlog that becomes an evening of adding places one by one, moving them onto days and checking the travel times for a day that zigzags across town.
Cotlet does it in your own Wanderlog account with list_trips, create_trip, search_places, add_place, add_note, optimize_day_route, get_trip and remove_place, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Official options
Can Wanderlog do this on its own?
Wanderlog has no public API for creating trips or adding places (checked 12 Oct 2026). Inside the app, the AI Assistant, powered by ChatGPT, answers travel questions and lets you add its suggested places to the trip on the same page, and Pro members run Optimize route on one day at a time. Both live only in Wanderlog's own screens. A list of places in your notes, a plan drafted in Claude or a script cannot write to the trip, so turning it into days is still manual.
By hand
How you do it in Wanderlog today
- Create the trip with a destination and dates, then add places from a Wanderlog travel guide with "Add to trip", which drops each one into the most recently edited list or day unless you click the down arrow next to the button and pick other lists or days.
- Tick the box next to each place in the Wanderlog itinerary and use "Move to" to send it to the right day; inside a day, drag the six-dots icon to change the order.
- Wanderlog has no activity type yet, so a day trip or a generic plan such as a food market morning goes in as a note under a section you create by hand.
- With Wanderlog Pro, click "Optimize route" next to a date, pick a start and end point or Auto-suggest, and repeat the same dialog for every day of the trip.
- The sorting is the slow part: every place needs a day, every day needs an order, and a place added late lands at the end of whichever list was touched last.
With an agent
How to plan a Wanderlog trip itinerary with AI
Prompt
Plan 4 days in Lisbon from May 12 for two: museums, food markets and a day trip to Sintra. Put these saved spots on the right days and keep each day walkable. - 01
Reuse the trip if it exists
The agent first looks through list_trips for a trip to the same destination with overlapping dates. A second request for Lisbon adds to that trip instead of creating a twin. Only when nothing matches does it call create_trip, and the new trip stays private until you share it.
- 02
Resolve every place before adding it
Each name goes through search_places near the destination. When two results fit, such as a chain cafe with several branches, the agent takes the one nearest the other stops planned for that day. When nothing fits, it lists the name back to you rather than adding a guess.
- 03
Cluster by neighborhood, then fill the days
Places that sit close together go on the same day with add_place. Items with a fixed time you mentioned, like a 10:00 tour, get a start_time; the rest stay untimed so the day can still move. Places you only want to keep in mind go to the Places to visit list instead of a day.
- 04
Write day trips as notes
A day trip to Sintra has no single address, so the agent writes it as a note on that day with add_note, as Wanderlog suggests for activities without a provider, and adds named stops under it only if you listed them.
- 05
Order each day and read it back
optimize_day_route runs once for each day with three or more stops. If your Wanderlog account has no Pro plan, where Optimize route is not available, the agent says so and keeps the order it added. It then reads the plan with get_trip and flags any day heavier than the limit you set, offering to move the last stops with remove_place and add_place instead of doing it silently.
What you get back
Example data
Trip "Lisbon long weekend" created: 12 to 15 May 2027, private.
Day 1 (Belem): Belem Tower 10:00, Jeronimos Monastery, Pasteis de Belem, MAAT. Route ordered.
Day 2 (Alfama and Baixa): Castelo de S. Jorge, Alfama walk, Time Out Market Lisboa. Route ordered.
Day 3: note "Day trip to Sintra: Pena Palace, Quinta da Regaleira".
Day 4 (Alcantara): LX Factory, Mercado de Campo de Ourique.
Not added: "the tiny tasca Ana mentioned", no match near Lisbon. Send me the name or street. Other ways to ask
- Day 3 is overloaded. Move the castle to day 4 and reorder day 3 for less walking.
- Here are 14 places I saved for Tokyo. Spread them over 5 days, at most 4 a day, and keep Sunday free.
- Add these 9 restaurants to the Places to visit list of my Rome trip without putting them on any day yet.
- I moved our hotel to Porto for the last two nights. Reorder those days starting and ending near the hotel.
Before you automate it
What Wanderlog allows, and what to know first
- Wanderlog's Optimize route is a Pro feature that works on one itinerary day at a time, with a start and end point you choose or Auto-suggest, and a banner afterwards shows what changed and lets you revert.
- Wanderlog shows no travel time estimates for addresses in Japan, because Google's APIs do not return them there; the help center suggests writing transit directions into place notes instead.
- In Wanderlog, "Add to trip" from a travel guide puts the place into the most recently edited list or day, and the down arrow next to the button adds it to several lists or days at once.
- Wanderlog has no activity type yet, and its help center recommends a section called "Activities" with a note for tours or day trips without a specific provider.
- Wanderlog's free plan has no limit on trips or on the number of people you plan with; Pro adds route optimization, Gmail scanning and export to Google Maps.
create_trip, add_place, add_note, optimize_day_route and remove_place change only your own Wanderlog data and reach no one else, so they run without asking first.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need Wanderlog Pro for this?
Not for building the trip. Wanderlog says the app stays free for as many trips and tripmates as you want. Only the route ordering step uses Optimize route, which Wanderlog offers to Pro members.
