Zola automation
Track Zola thank-you notes and mark them sent
Gifts keep landing in the Zola gift tracker for weeks after the wedding: registry orders, cash fund contributions and surprise gifts that reveal late. You write cards in batches at the kitchen table, then need to know who is still waiting and where to send the next envelope.
Cotlet does it in your own Zola account with list_gifts and mark_thank_you_sent, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Can Zola do this on its own?
Zola has no API for gifts (checked 12 Oct 2026). The Zola gift tracker, its CSV download and the iOS app's "Manage thank yous" show who still needs a note, and the Thank You Note Generator writes personal notes on landscape folded cards ordered from Zola. Marking a note as sent stays a per-gift click, and nothing in Zola takes the list of cards you just mailed.
By hand
How you do it in Zola today
- Open the Gift Tracker in your Zola registry and search for a giver by name to see what they gave.
- Mark the thank-you note as sent on each gift in the Zola gift tracker, one gift at a time.
- For envelopes, download the gift tracker CSV: it lists each gift's order number, name, quantity, value, gift message, giver's address, order status and thank-you note status.
- On the Zola iOS app, "Manage thank yous" on the home screen shows who still needs a note and lets Zola AI draft the text.
- After every batch you tick gifts again and download a fresh CSV. A giver with two gifts, or a gift you converted to store credit, makes the count of who is left easy to get wrong.
With an agent
How to track Zola thank-you notes and mark them sent
Prompt
List the Zola gifts we still owe a thank-you note for, grouped by giver with their address. When I tell you which cards I mailed, mark them sent. - 01
Group open gifts by giver
list_gifts with thank_you set to not_sent is grouped by giver, so a couple who gave a Dutch oven and a honeymoon fund contribution gets one card listing both gifts, with the message they wrote.
- 02
Fill in what each envelope needs
Each group carries the giver's address from the gift tracker. Gifts with no address are listed apart so you can ask the giver, instead of discovering the gap with a sealed card in hand.
- 03
Note what is not in the tracker yet
Surprise gifts stay hidden until their reveal date and Venmo contributions appear only after the guest reports them, so the agent says the list is complete as of today and checks again on the next run.
- 04
Match the cards you mailed
When you name the cards you sent, the agent matches each name to its open gifts. A name that fits two givers stops for your answer, and gifts already marked sent are skipped.
- 05
Mark the batch and show who is left
mark_thank_you_sent updates the whole batch in one call. The agent then reads the open list again and reports the remaining count, and a wrong tick is reversed with sent set to false.
What you get back
Example data
Open thank-you notes: 23 gifts from 18 givers.
Alex and Jo Kim: Dutch Oven ($389.00) and Honeymoon Fund ($150.00). "Congratulations!" 12 Example Street, Springfield, IL 62701.
No address on file: Maya Ortiz (Cash Fund, $100.00), Lee family (Stand Mixer).
Marked sent after today's batch: 12 gifts from 9 givers, including Sam Example (Honeymoon Fund).
Skipped: Rita Gomez, already marked sent on 2 Oct.
Still open: 11 gifts from 9 givers. Other ways to ask
- Every Sunday, send me the givers still waiting for a thank-you note and the addresses I am missing.
- Which gifts from the bridal shower still have no thank-you note?
- I wrote the card to the Kims by mistake as sent; undo it.
- Give me the list of open thank-you notes as name, gift and address lines I can paste into a mail merge.
Before you automate it
What Zola allows, and what to know first
- A guest can mark a Zola gift as a surprise with a reveal date; until that date the couple cannot see who gave it or manage it in the gift tracker, though Zola support can reveal it early without telling the guest.
- When a couple converts a Zola gift to store credit before it ships, Zola keeps the original gift in the gift tracker so the giver can still be thanked for it.
- A Venmo contribution to a Zola cash fund shows up in the gift tracker only after the guest clicks "I contributed already" and enters a name and amount.
- Zola's Thank You Note Generator works only on landscape folded cards, and the AI drafting of thank-you text sits in the Zola iOS app under "Manage thank yous".
mark_thank_you_sent changes only your own Zola data and reach no one else, so it runs without asking first.

Frequently asked questions
Do gifts exchanged for store credit still show up?
Yes. Zola keeps the original gift in the gift tracker after you convert it to store credit, so list_gifts still returns it with its giver and thank-you status.
