Formstack automation
Change Formstack notification email recipients
A teammate leaves or the team changes, and the notification emails of dozens of Formstack forms still go to the old address. Each form has to be opened and fixed by hand.
Cotlet does it in your own Formstack account with list_forms, get_notification_emails and update_notification_recipients, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Can Formstack do this on its own?
Formstack's Forms API has notification email endpoints that cover recipients, sender, subject, message and conditional logic (checked 22 Oct 2026). It needs the API add-on, a Personal Access Token and code you run yourself. The web app edits one form at a time, and Formstack has no MCP server.
How you do it in Formstack today
- An admin opens the form and goes to Settings > Emails & Redirects, then to the Notification Email section.
- Formstack sets up one Notification Email on every form, and the admin edits its recipients there or adds another one.
- Forms that route by answer keep a separate Notification Email per route, set up with the Use Email Logic button at the bottom, so each of those emails is checked on its own.
- After any change on the Emails & Actions page the admin clicks Save, because unsaved changes are lost, and can trigger a test email from the same section.
- Formstack documents this one form at a time, so a change of owner means repeating it on every form.
How to change Formstack notification email recipients
In the Events folder, find every Formstack form that sends its notification email to sam@example.com. Replace him with dana@example.com, keep other recipients and leave forms that route by answer for me. - 01
List the forms in scope
Your agent reads the forms in the folder with list_forms and follows next_cursor to the end. It sees the forms your login can open: a user with restricted permissions sees only the folders and forms in their permissions, so run this as an admin for the whole account.
- 02
Read each notification email
get_notification_emails returns every notification email on a form with its recipients, send option, message format and whether Email Logic is on. The agent keeps the forms where the old address appears and skips the rest.
- 03
Set routed emails aside
A notification email with Email Logic goes to different people by answer. update_notification_recipients changes recipients only, not logic rules, so the agent lists these emails for you with the form name instead of rewriting them.
- 04
Swap the address
update_notification_recipients replaces the old address with the new one and keeps the other recipients. Each change reaches a real inbox from the next submission, so it waits for your OK by default.
- 05
Read it back
The agent reads each changed email again with get_notification_emails and reports the forms changed, skipped and left for you.
What you get back
Forms in Events: 14
Sam replaced by Dana: 9
No Sam in the recipients: 4
Left for you, routed by answer: 1
- Volunteer signup (2 routes, Dana on neither) Other ways to ask
- Add dana@example.com as a second recipient on every form in the Sales folder and keep the existing ones.
- List every form where the notification email goes to a single person, with that person's address.
- Every Monday, list forms whose notification email is switched off.
What Formstack allows, and what to know first
- Formstack's Notification and Confirmation Emails are available only on paid accounts, so a trial account sends neither.
- By default a Notification Email sends all the submitted data as HTML, and the Message Format can be switched to plain text.
- Notification Emails are sent from noreply@formstack.com; an address you enter as the sender becomes the reply-to, unless SMTP is set in the account's Email Settings.
- A resend of one submission to another address is a one-time send and does not add that person as a recipient.
update_notification_recipients asks for your OK by default. To run it on a schedule without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

Frequently asked questions
Does it change who gets the confirmation email?
No. The tool changes the Notification Email, the one your team gets when a form is submitted. The confirmation email goes to the person who submitted the form and stays as it is.
Is it safe to connect Formstack to Cotlet?
Yes. You sign in to Formstack yourself, in your own Cloud Browser in the EU, and we never save your password. Your agents only get Formstack once you enable it, every background request is listed, and the browser profile is stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM, the cipher 1Password uses for its vaults. The AI model never sees a login, posts and messages wait for your OK, and Disable for agents cuts access in one click. Independent scanners grade cotlet.dev A+ on Qualys SSL Labs, securityheaders.com and Mozilla Observatory; live results are on https://cotlet.dev/security.
