Upload and schedule a SoundCloud track release

The master is done on Wednesday night and the release is Friday at 18:00. Before then someone has to upload it as private, fill in the same metadata as last time and set the scheduled time on the track's edit page, without letting it go public early.

Cotlet does it in your own SoundCloud account with list_tracks, upload_track, get_track and schedule_release, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Official options

Can SoundCloud do this on its own?

SoundCloud schedules releases only in its own app, for Artist Pro creators, from the track's edit page (help center checked 12 Oct 2026). The public API can upload a track with Artist Pro app credentials, but its guide lists no way to set a release time (checked 11 Oct 2026), so a script cannot finish the job on its own.

By hand

How you do it in SoundCloud today

  1. Click Upload in the SoundCloud top navigation bar, then Choose files or drag the WAV onto the page. SoundCloud starts uploading and transcoding the file right away.
  2. Fill in the SoundCloud upload form: title, description, tags, image, buy link and license, then the Permissions settings for downloads, embedding and Quiet Mode.
  3. Set Privacy to Private before you save, because SoundCloud schedules only private tracks.
  4. Open the new track page, click the pencil icon below the waveform and set the release date and time in the Basic Info tab, then click Save.
  5. Every single goes through the same form again. One wrong click on Public sends the track to followers' Feeds at once, and SoundCloud then stamps that moment as the track's upload date for good.

With an agent

How to upload and schedule a SoundCloud track release

Prompt

Upload final-mix.wav as "Night Drive", genre House, tags deep house and night, keep it private and schedule it for Friday 18:00 Berlin time.
  1. 01

    Check for a duplicate first

The agent reads your uploads with list_tracks and looks for the same title. If "Night Drive" already exists as private or scheduled, it asks whether to schedule that one instead of uploading a second copy.

  2. 02

Upload as private with your usual metadata

upload_track sends the file with the title, genre, tags and artwork you gave, or the ones from your last release if you said "same as last time". The track stays hidden while it waits.

  3. 03

Wait for processing, then check the details

The agent polls get_track until processing ends. It confirms that privacy is private, that downloads match what you asked for and that the artwork is set, and it stops if SoundCloud hid the track for lack of upload minutes.

  4. 04

Turn "Friday 18:00" into an exact time

The agent writes the release time with your time zone, checks that it is in the future and repeats it back in plain words. A time that has already passed is not sent.

  5. 05

    Schedule, after your OK

schedule_release waits for your confirmation, because at that time the track reaches every follower. If SoundCloud refuses because the account is not Artist Pro or the track is already public, the agent reports it and leaves the track as it is.

What you get back

Example data

Uploaded: Night Drive (House, 6:12), private, processing done
Tags: deep house, night. Artwork set. Downloads off.
Scheduled: Fri 16 Oct 2026, 18:00 Berlin time (16:00 UTC)
Secret link for the label until then: soundcloud.com/yourname/night-drive/s-Ab12Cd34Ef
Not changed: Harbour Lights (already public)

Other ways to ask

  • Upload the three tracks in this folder as private and schedule one every Friday at 17:00, starting next week.
  • Night Drive is already uploaded as private. Just schedule it for Saturday 12:00 New York time.
  • Upload my set from last night as private now, and schedule it for tomorrow 10:00 after I approve the artwork.
  • Which of my tracks are scheduled right now, and when does each one go out?

Before you automate it

What SoundCloud allows, and what to know first

  • SoundCloud scheduled releases are an Artist Pro feature, and SoundCloud cannot schedule an album or a playlist, only single tracks.
  • SoundCloud fixes the upload date shown on a track to the first time it went from private to public, and that date cannot be changed later; a custom release date added in the track metadata shows under the track instead.
  • SoundCloud Basic and Artist accounts have limited upload minutes, and an upload that goes over them can leave tracks hidden until minutes are freed or the plan is upgraded.
  • SoundCloud Follower Exclusive, also Artist Pro, gives followers the track at once and asks non-followers to follow; it works only for tracks uploaded directly, not delivered by a distributor or label.
  • The release date chosen in SoundCloud for Artists distribution is separate from the SoundCloud upload date, and SoundCloud advises setting a store release 4 to 6 weeks ahead.

schedule_release asks for your OK by default. To run it on a schedule without you, switch confirmation off for that tool in your dashboard.

Frequently asked questions

Can I move the release date after the track is public?

No. SoundCloud stamps the upload date at the first switch from private to public and does not let you change it. You can add a custom release date in the track metadata, which shows under the track.

Can I schedule a track without Artist Pro?

No. SoundCloud lets only Artist Pro creators schedule a release, so schedule_release fails on other plans. upload_track still works and leaves the track private.
