Find your top SoundCloud cities and countries for tour planning

1. On desktop, click your profile avatar in the top right of SoundCloud and select Your Insights; on mobile, open Artist Home, Library or SoundCloud Channel and tap Your Insights.
2. SoundCloud Insights opens on the past 30 days. Switch the dropdown to Day, Week, Month or Year, or pick another period.
3. Read the Countries and Cities lists, which SoundCloud Artist Pro shows as the top 50 for the chosen period.
4. SoundCloud Insights has no export, so the numbers are copied into a spreadsheet by hand, then the period is changed and the copying starts again for the comparison.
5. Repeat for single tracks to see which song carries which city. The comparison is the slow part, and a short spike from fake plays can look like a real local scene.

I am planning autumn shows. Which cities and countries played my music most in the last six months, which of them grew against the six months before, and which tracks do they play?

1. 01

   Pick a period that is complete

   The agent reads get_audience for cities and then countries over the period you named. It ends the period a few days before today, because plays from signed-out and offline listeners arrive late.

2. 02

   Compare with the period before

   The same breakdowns run for the previous period of equal length. Each city gets its plays now, its plays before and the change, so a city that is small but doubling stands next to a big one that is flat.

3. 03

   Find the tracks behind each city

   For the top cities the agent runs get_audience again per track for your three or four biggest tracks, found with get_insights. That tells you which song to open the set with in Lisbon and which one in Leeds.

4. 04

   Flag numbers that look wrong

   A city whose plays all land in a few days, or sit far above its country total, is marked for a second look. The agent also checks play sources, because plays from an embed on one blog say less about a live crowd than plays in the SoundCloud app.

5. 05

   No Artist Pro, no city data

   If get_audience returns a permission error, the agent says that cities and countries need Artist Pro and reports only the totals and top tracks it can read with get_insights.

• SoundCloud Insights lists at most 50 countries, 50 cities and 50 top listeners for a period, and the location and listener lists are Artist Pro only.
• The SoundCloud Insights Overview page runs on GMT, so a "week" there starts and ends on GMT days, not local ones.
• SoundCloud updates plays from signed-in listeners in real time and other plays within 24 hours, while offline SoundCloud Go plays can show up as late as 30 days later.
• SoundCloud does not count self-plays, and when Trust and Safety removes fake accounts their interactions go with them, but SoundCloud cannot adjust or revert play counts.
• SoundCloud keeps Insights of a deleted track on the Insights Overview page under the name "Deleted or disabled track".
