TrueCoach automation
Write TrueCoach workouts from a text prompt
You plan Sam's Thursday session in your notes app, then retype it field by field into the TrueCoach workout builder: title, warmup, each exercise, each circuit, cooldown. On a Sunday evening that repeats for every client.
Cotlet does it in your own TrueCoach account with list_clients, list_workouts and create_workout, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Can TrueCoach do this on its own?
TrueCoach has no API for writing workouts (checked 12 Oct 2026), and its Zapier app only fires a "Workout Created" trigger after a coach has built one. TrueCoach's blog describes an AI Workout Builder that generates a plan from a client's goals, experience level and equipment. That drafts a new plan for you to review; it does not take the session you already planned and put it on the calendar as written, and the help center has no article on it.
By hand
How you do it in TrueCoach today
- In TrueCoach, click the client's name to open their workout calendar, hover over the day and click the Add Workout icon, then the expand icon for the full workout builder.
- Type a title the client will see, then the warmup, or start typing the name of a warmup saved under Library > Warm Ups to pull in its text and demo videos.
- Add each exercise by typing its name and picking it from the TrueCoach library list, then write sets, reps, tempo and rest in the open description field under it.
- Link movements into a superset with the link icon (Command + Shift + K on a Mac), add EMOM or AMRAP blocks with the + Circuit button, write the cooldown and click Save.
- Repeat the same typing for the next client. Copy and paste only helps when the session is identical, and a load or tempo change per client still means editing each copy.

How to write TrueCoach workouts from a text prompt
Prompt
Write Thursday's lower body session for Sam: warmup, back squat 5x5 at 3010 tempo, RDL 3x8, then a 10 min EMOM of KB swings and push-ups. - 01
Find the right client
The agent matches the name in your prompt with list_clients. Two clients called Sam means it asks which one, showing their groups so you can tell them apart, instead of guessing.
- 02
Look at the day first
list_workouts for that single date shows whether the day already holds a session. If it does, the agent asks whether to add a second workout or leave the day alone, because TrueCoach shows both to the client in calendar order.
- 03
Turn shorthand into builder fields
"5x5 at 3010" becomes "5 sets of 5, tempo 3010" in the exercise description, a 10 min EMOM becomes one circuit block with its stations listed, and A1/A2 pairs become linked exercises. Your own wording for cues is kept, since the client reads those fields exactly as typed.
- 04
Use library names
Movements are matched to the names in your TrueCoach exercise library so the demo video comes along. When a movement has no match, the agent keeps your wording and tells you which exercise will appear without a video.
- 05
Write, then report the new due date
create_workout puts the session on the calendar. The agent reports the workout ID and the client's new due date, since a session past the old due date pushes it out.
What you get back
Example data
Sam Rivera, Thu 15 Oct 2026: "Lower body A" written (workout 91374700).
Warmup: 5 min bike, 2 rounds of glute bridges and goblet squats.
A: Back Squat, 5 sets of 5, tempo 3010, rest 2 min.
B: Romanian Deadlift, 3 sets of 8, rest 90 s.
C: 10 min EMOM circuit, 12 KB swings and 8 push-ups.
"Hip airplane" is not in your library, so it shows without a demo video.
Due date moved from 14 Oct to 15 Oct. Other ways to ask
- Here is next week for Alex in plain text, Monday to Friday. Put each day on his calendar and skip any day that already has a workout.
- Write the same upper body session for Sam and Alex on Saturday, but use 70 kg on bench for Sam and 85 kg for Alex.
- Turn this pasted Google Doc block into a TrueCoach workout for Maya on 20 Oct, keeping my coaching cues word for word.
Before you automate it
What TrueCoach allows, and what to know first
- TrueCoach releases a week of workouts the Sunday before by default; Account > Settings > Client Settings > Client Workout Visibility can switch that to always 7 days ahead.
- TrueCoach shows linked exercises to the client as A1, A2 or B1, B2, B3, so the superset letters come from the builder, not from your text.
- Every TrueCoach account includes Central Athlete's library of 1,200+ movements and the USA Weightlifting movements, which is where exercise names are matched.
- A TrueCoach client who has a workout assigned receives a daily workout email, which the coach or the client can switch off from the client's profile.
- If the coach turns on client date editing under Account > Settings > Client Settings, TrueCoach lets every client move an assigned workout to any day.
create_workout changes only your own TrueCoach data and reach no one else, so it runs without asking first.

Frequently asked questions
Can the agent hide a workout from a Dual client?
No, create_workout has no hide option. TrueCoach lets you hide a workout with the eye icon in the top right of the workout builder, which Dual clients then see as hidden; set that by hand after the agent writes it.
