Skool automation · runs daily
Auto-approve Skool membership requests
Your private Skool group collects join requests overnight, and every morning someone has to read three Membership Questions answers per applicant before clicking approve or decline.
Cotlet does it in your own Skool account with list_membership_requests, approve_membership_request and decline_membership_request, called by your AI agent, an n8n workflow or a script.

Official options
Can Skool do this on its own?
Skool offers two native options (checked 12 Oct 2026). Instant membership approval, a Pro-plan plugin, lets every applicant in without reading a single answer, and Skool's own spam guide recommends switching it off. The Zapier plugin, also Pro only, can send Membership Questions answers to a CRM, but it has no action to approve or decline a request. Nothing in Skool approves by a rule on the answers.
By hand
How you do it in Skool today
- Skool sends admins a membership request alert only if the [Admin only] Membership request option is on under profile picture > Settings > Notifications.
- In the group, admins and moderators open each pending applicant and read the Membership Questions answers along with the bio, location and profile picture Skool shows for each request.
- Each applicant gets an approve or decline click by hand; a clear spammer gets banned from Members > MEMBERSHIP ⚙️ > Ban from group so the account cannot request access again.
- Once a member is approved, the answers move to Members > MEMBERSHIP SETTINGS > Questions, or to the Export button on the Members tab.
- The queue refills after every ad push, and Skool's own Plugins guide says that waiting for approval makes a lead-magnet visitor less likely to ever view what they joined for.
With an agent
How to auto-approve Skool membership requests
Prompt
Go through pending Skool membership requests in yourgroup. Approve applicants whose answers name a business they run, decline obvious spam, and leave everyone else for me with a one-line reason. - 01
Read the whole queue first
Your agent pulls every pending request with list_membership_requests and pages through the cursor until the queue is empty, so a long weekend backlog is judged as one batch instead of the first page only.
- 02
Apply your rule to the answers
Each applicant is matched against the rule in your prompt, for example "names a business they run" or "chose Agency owner on question 2". The agent quotes the answer it relied on, so you can see why each person passed.
- 03
Sort into three piles
Clear matches go to approve, clear spam (links in every answer, empty or copied text, an email question filled with nonsense) goes to decline, and anything ambiguous stays pending with a short note for you.
- 04
Approve, then decline
approve_membership_request runs for the matches first, so good applicants get in even if you stop the run halfway; decline_membership_request runs only for the spam pile. Both ask for your OK per call until you switch confirmation off for them.
- 05
Skip what already changed
Right before each click, the agent checks that the request is still pending. One that another admin or moderator handled in the meantime is logged as already handled, never acted on twice.
What you get back
Example data
Pending requests in yourgroup: 23
Approved 14 (answers name a business, e.g. Tom Becker: "SaaS for dental clinics")
Declined 4 (same promo link in all three answers)
Left for you 5:
- Maria Silva: "still deciding what to build"
- Jake Ortiz: answered only the email question
Already handled by a moderator: 0 Other ways to ask
- Every morning at 8, approve requests that answered "Yes" to the rules question and list the rest for me.
- Approve everyone who joined from the webinar this week: their email answer ends in @acme.io.
- Show me the pending queue sorted by how well each answer fits my ideal member, but do not approve anyone yet.
- Decline requests where all three answers are the same link, and tell me which accounts to ban by hand.
Before you automate it
What Skool allows, and what to know first
- Skool allows up to three Membership Questions per group, answered as a text box, multiple choice or email address, and only one of them can be an email question.
- Skool lets moderators view Membership Questions answers and approve or decline new members, so a moderator account is enough for this job.
- Skool's AutoMod flags high-risk accounts for admins to review, and Skool recommends banning flagged free members rather than letting them in.
- A Skool ban stops the account from requesting to join the group again, and Skool's Ban and Delete Last 7 Days of Activity option removes its recent posts and comments in the same step.
- Skool's AutoDM, a Pro-plan plugin, reaches each approved member within 1 to 5 minutes of joining, so the welcome needs no extra step.
approve_membership_request and decline_membership_request ask for your OK by default. To run it daily without you, switch confirmation off for those tools in your dashboard.

Frequently asked questions
Where do the answers go after my agent approves someone?
Skool keeps them on the member: open the Members tab, click MEMBERSHIP SETTINGS next to the member and choose the Questions tab. The Export button on the Members tab downloads all answers at once.
Should I just turn on Instant membership approval instead?
Instant membership approval lets everyone in on the Pro plan, which suits free groups fed by ads. Skool itself recommends turning it off when spam shows up in the feed, and it cannot filter by answers, which is the gap this job fills.
